    Re: Other religions?

    depends on your intention...

are you interested in finding out because you want to call them to the truth or interested in looking into it because you want to look into following their way of life?

    Re: Other religions?

im not a scholar or anything but the hadith in which it says:

rasullulah saws saw umar RA read a torah and rasullulah's face changed and anger could be seen on his face and he said if Musa AS was alive he most certainly would have followed him.

this hadith scares me, and i think Allah and Islam is enough...

    Re: Other religions?

Remember if you wish for a different religion it will not be allowed. On a brighter site, I do think you will find your answers in Islam if you give it a try. Now there is nothing wrong with learning about the world you live in, and yes some religions might be offering some nice things, but in Islam we believe Allah subhana wa ta'ala has perfected our religion, so why would you exchange a perfect religion for something that is not perfect?

Why not study islaam? It's way more deeper than any other faith. Even if you spent all your life learning about islaam, you would still need more time.

it is not that straight forward,

i.e is it allowed to study how to make pornographic images or films? or study to become a catholic priest?

we need to have basic knowledge of such things to warn against them, but this person actually wants to study it because they think budhism has merit when it is a kufr idiology and a message from shaitan to draw people from the right path no matter how much other good is in it.

With all due respect, buddhism has very little to do with porn. But I understand your point.

we need to have basic knowledge of such things to warn against them, but this person actually wants to study it because they think budhism has merit when it is a kufr idiology and a message from shaitan to draw people from the right path no matter how much other good is in it.
I believe some people have got the wrong end of the stick so for the benefit of everyone, allow me to anaylse the user's previous statement:
I dont know i am really confused, i am just curious their religion intrest me the whole meditation and finding inner peace i dont know i study religion in class and i find it really intresting
The bolded curious: this means he has some interest with the religion, it doesn't mean that he wants to revert or anything like that.
The second bolded parts: the brother wants to learn specifically about meditation and finding inner peace - this is highly prevalent in many religions, including Islam. So, yes, in that respect, Buddhism does have a merit. The brother wishes only to learn about it - nothing wrong in doing so.

In short: to study another religion doesn't make you an apostate.

Bro, what you highlighted shows the extact reason why the brother should not do it.

I dont know i am really confused, i am just curious their religion intrest me the whole meditation and finding inner peace i dont know i study religion in class and i find it really intresting
As you showed, the respected brother is curious in what? the religion and the meditation and finding inner peace

It sounds as if the brother, now brother (original poster) please correct me, but that you find the meditation and finding inner peace part interesting, it sounds like you might want to take it up. But this is wrong in the sense that Allah has told us how to find this already,

YUSUFALI: "Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.
PICKTHAL: Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest!
SHAKIR: Those who believe and whose hearts are set at rest by the remembrance of Allah; now surely by Allah's remembrance are the hearts set at rest.
Satisfaction, peace, rest, Allah has told us how, to try and seek a different method is only to disregard what has been told us.

If the brother is just learning for what ever other raeson, personally I'd caution him to be careful. Anyhow, I hope its helped. in some way

    Eesa.

Come, now. Some people are overreacting. Throughout my life I've read about Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism and Sikhism simply because I want to know what followers of those religions believe. I've not turned into a Buddhist, a Christian, a Jew, a Hindu or a Sikh!

Curiosity about their beliefs. I also want to better understand my peers. Maybe I also want to make better sense of the political climate in order to find a way to strike some sort of balance between all the main interests of different religions, to get peace, but that sounds pretentious.

I'm secure enough in my beliefs to learn about others'. I think we all should learn about other religions - not to convert, but simply to understand and respect our neighbours' beliefs just as we would like them to respect ours.

Textbooks, encyclopedias, just general reading about certain philosophical and sociological standpoints. It wasn't all in one clump, it's just accumulated knowledge that I'm constantly gathering, even here on LI from certain non-Muslim members.

How do you know where the limit lies?
Um, when you start thinking, 'hey, I want to be a member of this religion!' But that doesn't happen because I simply don't want it to. I read about them simply with the intention of learning and understanding.

I'm still trying to learn more about Islam than anything, but it is interesting to know how other religions are in certain situations I guess..
Exactly. I've found that every major religion favours peace and mutual respect. This is why I find all the religious conflict so perplexing and frustrating.

That's correct. I believe I can find all the inner peace I want in Islam, and I accept that other people find inner peace in the religions they wish to follow.

Aah...I've seen a lot of similarities between the Christian religion and Islam, But I tend to leave it when I see contradiction..I just don't want to confuzzle myself too much I guess. I haven't really looked at any other religion apart from Islam and Christianity and Judaism confuses me a lot..is it a religion or a nation?
