I hope there isn't already a thread similar to this, but I think this will be very helpful to some.....

Jazakallah in advance to everybody who translates.....

I just wanted to know, does this:

    و الله يعلم ما تسمعون

And Allah knows what what you hear?

Loyalty and disavowal means loving the believers and being loyal to them, hating the unbelievers, being their ennemy and disavowing them and their religion.

That is loyalty and disavowal like Allah said in sourat al-moumta7ana:

There is for you an excellent example (to follow) in Abraham, and those with him, when they said to their people: we are clear of you and whatever ye worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hate forever, unless ye believe in Allah and Him alone. (Quran 60:4)

Hating them and being their ennemy does not mean oppressing them or aggressing them if they are not combattants; it means hating them and being their ennemy in your heart, not having them as your friends. If they greet you, you should return their greeting, advise them to do good because Allah said:
And dispute ye not with the people of the book, except with means better (than disputation). (Quran 29:46)

The people of the book are the jews and the christians (and other kafirs to whom you promised safety). But those of them who aggress others must be punished.
A believer can dispute with them with better means ( see the previous aaya) because Allah said: Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious. (Quran 16:125)

So a beliver cannot aggress or oppress the non-believers, even though he hates them for the sake of Allah, he can make daawa and invite them to believe in Allah and guide them to the truth.

It is ok to give them charity because God said: Allah forbids you not, with regards to those who fight you not for your faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just. (Quran 60:8)

As was proven in the 2 sahihs, the prophet (PBUH) ordered Asmaa bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) to maintain her relation with her mother who was a kafira after the truce that was agreed between the prophet (PBUH) and the peeople of Mecca.

Muhammad bin Abdul Aziz bin Abi Rizma Ghazwan by name said, Alfadhl bin Musa told us that Alamish through Habeeb bin Abi Thabit from Saeed bin Jubair - from Ibn Abbas that the Prophet (saw) used to pray at Madeena combining two prayers between zuhr and asr, and maghrib and isha, without fear or rain. Someone asked why. He (Prophet (saw)) said, to remove difficulty from His community.

Hi there. Could someone explain to me Saladin, the great Muslim commander's name? It's Salah ad-Din, the latter part I know as 'the faith'. What does Salah mean?

the word 3izza (عزة) can mean both honor and glory, right?

is the meaning on this phrase أنا مبدئي أن الهوان لغيرنا، والعز لي ولأمتي وبلادي the following:
my beginning is that weakness is for other than us, and that glory/honor is for me, my ummah and my lands

and also the name baasim (باسم) means one who is smiling, so then does the name Bassaam (بسام) mean one who is always smiling?

    u r right.
    3ezza means honor and glory
Bassam is just a variant of the name Bassem. Bassam is basically a "moubalagha": exageration of Bassem.
