thing is im not sure about is, if its better to pay to get my own domain then create the wordpress blog,
or to do directly through wordpress and do it for free,
i know the benefit is i will own the domain name and can name it whatever i like,
where as with it being through wordpress regardless to what i call it, it will have wordpress.com within the url if that makes sense
any idea whats the best and cheapest domain and hosting sites?

With Wordpress.com you get free hosting and a free domain (BlogNameHere.wordpress.com).
Your a beginner so I would recommend Wordpress.com. .Org and .Com are very different, see a comparison below.

Use Hostgator. Or you can wait a few days and I'll host/get custom domain name for you (with discounts ).
If you choose Wordpress.com then you won't need hosting. If you want to get rid of the "Wordpress.com" in your URL, then all you need is a custom domain name and your sorted .
@فرحان
thing is if i use wordpress directly im limited with the plugins themes etc,
where as if i use a hosting site like gatorhost for example i can install wordpress through there and use any plugin/theme i like from what i understand
so youre saying i could use wordpress.com as hosting and simply get my own domain name?
although id be left a bit on the limited side in terms of plugins but it will be free hosting right and just pay for the domain?

Yes that's true.
Think about what kind of plugins/themes would you need? For a simple blog you won't need much anyway, it has a good selection of themes there to choose from.
If you want to customize your blog to the next level.. like productivemuslim.com then use .Org.

its going to be a poetry blog, so i do what it to be simple but at the same time have a bit of a cutting edge you know...

Yes that's correct . That would be simply logical .

.Com will already have the main things you need.
Cutting edge technology lol , I'm sure you don't need a live chat system or an arcade for a poetry blog .
You mean blogger.com? Never used them. Best to stick to mainstream Wordpress. It's what many successful blogs/bloggers use these days.

The short answers are that (1) Google doesn't own the content or name of your blog (although they do control your URL); (2) you can do things to enhance your legal protection but you probably don't need to anything right away to protect your stuff.
