is all type of music haram?

    Report bad ads?

    Asalam alaikum
I am a 17 year old guy and a convert (my parents don't know).
many muslim scholars tell that music is haram but I find it tough to accept.
I have been listening to music all my life (its like an addiction) and its very tough to not listen to music.Music is everywhere.
Music is also known to have good effects on your mind and body. Why did Allah forbid it?I don't think that the Quran actually says that ALL music is haram. My interpretation is that songs about sex, alcohol and other forbidden things is haram.I never listen to those type of songs.I hate rap (we all know that rap is everything un-islamic) and I can live without party songs,I don't find the female singers' voice seductive.
But the problem is I love alternative rock and soft rock.I listen to bands like shinedown, green day,and one republic. These bands don't sing anything unislamic (except green day but not all of their songs are "bad").Shinedown sings about morals and stuff.Shinedown's songs make me more human.Do you think even these songs are haram?Read this verse:
“And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allaah…” [Luqmaan 31:6]
The songs to which I listen can't mislead me from the path of Allah. So what do u think?

Re: is all type of music haram?

salaam, yep as far as i know all types of music is haraam, anything that has a musical instrument is haraam, but im not too sure about drums.
we are not allowed to listen to music as it creates hypocrisy in our hearts which is un-islamic. you just have to get use to it, there are plenty of islamic nasheeds which you can listen to, nasheeds actually make you more holier and it makes you appreciate life and how you have been blessed by allah.

Re: is all type of music haram?

try to filter out the music and replace it with nasheeds and ultimately the recitation of Quran.

all muslim living in the West go through the addiction to music phase but to please Allah we leave it... for some instantly for others gradually...

may Allah keep us all strong and lets race each other to Paradise.

Re: is all type of music haram?

    Narrated Aisha:

Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) came to my house while two girls were singing beside me the songs of Buath (a story about the war between the two tribes of the Ansar, the Khazraj and the Aus, before Islam). The Prophet (p.b.u.h) lay down and turned his face to the other side. Then Abu Bakr came and spoke to me harshly saying, "Musical instruments of Satan near the Prophet (p.b.u.h) ?" Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) turned his face towards him and said, "Leave them." When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I signalled to those girls to go out and they left. It was the day of 'Id, and the Black people were playing with shields and spears; so either I requested the Prophet (p.b.u.h) or he asked me whether I would like to see the display. I replied in the affirmative. Then the Prophet (p.b.u.h) made me stand behind him and my cheek was touching his cheek and he was saying, "Carry on! O Bani Arfida," till I got tired. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) asked me, "Are you satisfied (Is that sufficient for you)?" I replied in the affirmative and he told me to leave.

    Hadith on Music

    Narrated Aisha:

Abu Bakr came to my house while two small Ansari girls were singing beside me the stories of the Ansar concerning the Day of Buath. And they were not singers. Abu Bakr said protestingly, "Musical instruments of Satan in the house of Allah's Apostle !" It happened on the 'Id day and Allah's Apostle said, "O Abu Bakr! There is an 'Id for every nation and this is our 'Id." Sahih Bukhari Volume 2, Book 15, Number 72:

31:6 (Y. Ali) But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path): for such there will be a Humiliating Penalty. (Read Commentary from Scholar on ayat)

Dun use this hadith as a basis for listening to music....the duff can only be used amongst women during wedding days or the 2 eids...music is haram..it grows hypocrisy in one's heart....and nasheed is a waste of time..a total waste of time as there is absolutely no goodness in it, and whoever thinks he is getting a reward for that, then we say that is a bi'dah and he has deviated...and those who sing nasheed are usually ppl who are not a good example of what a muslim should be or they are not setting a good example at least...Islam is simple, dun add anything to what Muhammad sallallahu'Alaihiwasallam has already instructed(with regard to nasheed).

As Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alaihiwasallam said: The best amongst you are those who learns the Quran and teaches it to others(with regard to both nasheed and music)....

bro give up music, after 2 weeks you will not know why you were addicted in the first place.

and you said yourself music is an addiction, right there is reason enough for it to be haram. and at the end of the day we hear and obey, the believers have no right to an opinion after Allah has decreed a matter.

there is a hadith which says molten iron being poured onto the ears of the ones who listen to music but i am not sure about the authencity of it..but its been forbidden in the quran...its refered to as, "vain talk"..the companions swore by Allah that He is refering to music....so while the punishment is unknown...the believers dun look for punishments to avoid doing things...we just need one evidence...thats it..we dun do it...

and btw bro, when ur listening to music, ur sinning...but u won't go to Hell because of it insyallah...its a sin, and it can corrupt ur heart...just try not to listen to it...if u succumb to it...then just ask Allah for forgiveness...i rather u succumb to listening to music, feel remorseful, repent sincerely and please Allah than u listen to Nasheed and waste ur time...the later is my personal opinion, u can ignore it if u want to...or u can think about it...

What about classical music? What about music from video games? Those are beautiful, lyric-less songs. Well, the exception is One-Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII, that's in Latin.

We consider all types of music is haram as the forbidance is on all musical instrument..Flute makes very beautiful sound...but the fact that the flute itself is forbidden dispels any thoughts that calm music is allowed in islam...whatever is needed to sooth the heart, it is in the quran...read it, memorize it revere in its beauty for those are the words of Allah...

When we refer to music, we meant the sound of instruments combined with the singer. So classical music is still a problem.

Try to substitute music to classical poetry or even better the Quran. Why not learn Arabic as you listen to the Quran.

    Abdul Qadir:

I will put the best construction on your attempting to direct me what to do. The hadith was presented so Muslims can research. I am not a scholar and from your Adab it appears you are still striving.

I provided Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAWS). I only review your presentation of a fatwa not accompanied with anything. I pray that Allah grants our Iman and Taqwa be reflected in our actions and deeds.

Allah and Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) provides direction for Muslims...There are no Scholars on duty in this forum and especially on this thread. The OP differs with listening to Music so evidence and not non-Scholar fatwas should be provided. It appears you were selective in quoting my posts. This topic on music being haram is an exhausted topic anyway that has been covered for years in this forum.

I know the 4 qul soorahs and soorah Al Fatiha along with ayaat Ul-Kursi.
and yea,Arabic seems to be a very simple language.I now regret cheating on my Arabic exams lol:unhappy:
Ayat Ul-Kursi is by far the best thing in the whole Quran imo.Its very poetic.

and no I don't know latin,I don't think that the question was directed towards me anyway lol

It was at me. I know some Latin from reading Harry Potter (the spells are in Latin in the books) and from some songs and science terms.
