    Translated from Indonesian to English:

    An Aphorism:

Imam Ahmad narrated a hadith from Ibnu Mas’ud, that Rasulullah
    Salallahu 3alayhi wa sallam said:
“People who are the most severe in torture in the Day of Resurrection are three: (1)
One who killed a Prophet or is killed by him, (2) A
Leader who is a deviant and deviates others, (3) And the actors of a play (mumathil).”
He continued, “What are meant as mumathils there are painters or
People who act in front of other people. As
Affirmed in dictionaries. (See: Al-Makhraj Min Al-Fitan, page 90).

Based on this hadith, the scholars declared haram (upon acting), when
It is frequent in plays/soap operas/films/dramas where one has to
Act as a beggar while one is not a beggar, act
As an ealder while one is young, act as a teacher while one is not
a teacher, actas a criminal while one is not a criminal, or act
as an infidel, even as an idolater who practices his
rituals in front of an idol. And many more. This is all
a blatant falsehood, which can only be judged by people of
intelligence and unaffected at all by desires.

How is it then with those who pursue carrier as actors???
If it were conveyed upon them these hadiths about
mumathils, would their hearts not be saddened, would they
fear not the torture they will receive in the Day of resurrection??? Apparently profession
as an actor is a lowly profession yet, why are there many
who are infatuated with them, has their mind gone wrong???

Fa`tabiru yaa ulil abshar la`allakum turhamuun.

    al faqir ilaa `afwa rabbihi,

It's better if you ask Ulama from MUI or other Indonesian Muslims organization (Muhammadiyah, Persis, NU, etc). They must be have different opinion.

Re: I got thi from my e-mail. Is it true?

I would like to know the ruling for skits/dramas/plays for children/teenagers with Islamic content (like ayahs from Qur'an, quotations from Hadith, etc...)

This is one of the issues concerning which the scholars differed; some of them forbid it altogether and some of them permit it, but within the guidelines of sharee’ah. Before we discuss the different views on this matter, we should point out that there is no dispute at all concerning the kind of acting which involves promiscuity and the mixing of men and women, and other kinds of evil actions, which is well-known on the screen.

There is no dispute among the scholars concerning the prohibition of such acting. The kind of acting concerning which there is a difference of opinion is that which is done by two or more people in front of a group of others, using actions and dialogue, in order to teach that group something about Islamic worship or morals, or to help them understand reality and the corruption that exists, or to teach them about the glories of the past, or for purposes of entertainment – in which they may present themselves in a way that differs from the way they really are. This kind of acting must be subject to certain guidelines, as follows:
