Just wanted to ask about sharia law. I was just wondering if sharia law is universal or is it different from country to country?
another Q that I want to ask is why some sharia laws differ from the al-qur'an. For example, in Aceh, Indonesia, it stated that if you get caught drinking you get 40 canned lashes, gambling 12 canned (sp?) lashes, and having pre-marital or commiting adultry gets you 40 lashes.
Well, what I have heard (please correct me if i'm wrong) that a person commits adultry/pre-marital sex does not get her/his prayers heard/answered in 40 years time and if you drink it's 40 days. don't know about gambling though.

I suppose it is for Ummah. This means that it is universal for all muslims and
that the borders mean nothing in islam. At least it is my current
understanding. Please note that whether shariah is implemented or not is
another matter.

Of course the sharia should not contradict Quran but please note that the
rulings of Quran contains nasikh and mansookh rules. It is not everybody's job
to figure out what is the rule of Quran and Sunnah in each case. Also the
shariah rules does not neccassarily mean (after being done) that a sin is
forgiven by our Lord. For instance if I commit a sin and face shariah
punishment and I do not repent (taubah) it means that my sin is not forgiven
no matter what. I have not heard of 40 years for any sin to cause one being
ignored can you please give a reference ? In any case such hadiths do not
mean that muslims should abandon praying because it is not accepted IMHO.
I suppose they basically show us how a particular sin affects our actions.
