    Poetry from Our Beloved Brothers..detained

    Report bad ads?

    A Sincere Prayer

O' my Lord, to whom do I turn
To a hypocrite who wishes me to burn
Or an enemy who wants me to be slain
Or the wicked, who unjustly detain
Or the misguided, whose faith is in vain
Or the ignorant, who doesn't learn
Or the poor, who cannot earn
Or a stranger who will refrain
Or the corrupt, whose support I won't maintain
Or a liar who wants to entertain
Or a busy man, whose help I cannot obtain
Or the weak, whose own relief he cannot attain
Or the arrogant, whose compassion I'd never gain
It's only to you my Lord
That I shall come again and again
    Bestow on me the faith
    That forever will sustain

Over the past year, Dr. Sami Al-Arian has written more than 60 poems, dealing with subjects that are near and dear to his heart, including the subjugation of the Palestinian people, the tragic killing of American Peace Activist Rachel Corrie, and the daily hardships he faces under the horrendous conditions of his imprisonment, etc.
We hope that these beautiful words will better convey the thoughts and feelings of Dr. Al-Arian. A collection of these poems entitled Conspiring Against Joseph will be published by Sept. 1.

    Conspiring Against Joseph

    With a trembling voice
    Between a whisper
    And a scream
    Dear father, said he,
    I just had
    A magnificent dream

    Eleven stars,
    The moon,
    And the sun,
    All bowing before me
    Like angels bowing
    Before the Almighty

    O' my beloved son
    Don't you tell your brothers
    Lest they scheme
    Or conspire

    Once penetrating the soul
    Jealousy is a deadly disease
    Love, compassion
    Mercy and grace
    All would flee
    The heart and cease

    Father, let's take Joseph
    For the day
    We shall entertain him,
    While we hunt
    And play

    O' my sons I fear
    For my beloved child
    From an animal
    That's dangerous and wild

    O' our dear old father
    Don't you worry
    We shall protect him
    Have trust in us
    And you won't be sorry

    Once away,
    Someone asked with a thrill
    What shall we do?
    One quickly answered
    Let's punish at will
    A second voice said
    Let's burn or grill
    While a third shouted
    No, no let's kill

    The eldest sat quietly
    But with the loudest yell
    Announced, let's place Joseph
    In the hidden well
    Shortly after,
    Joseph was found
    By passersby
    And offered cheaply
    To a caravan to sell

    Joseph, the honorable
    The noble and the brave
    Has become a spoil
    A servant and a slave

    Meanwhile, they arrived
In the middle of the night
    While the father was praying
    In the fading light

    The eldest whispered
    His story of deceptive fraud
    While handing him a shirt
    Mixed with false blood

    While we were racing
    And running away
    The wolf devoured Joseph
    And took him as prey

    Then they shed
    Crocodile tears
    While swearing oaths
    With their eyes and ears

    Joseph grew up
    As servant and slave
In the house of the king
    A perfect young man
    That mothers of all races
    Failed to bring

    A distinct personality
    With shining morality
    And true loyalty
    Honesty and modesty
    Unparalleled beauty
    Fulfilling his duty

    And showing unique wisdom
    Displayed so seldom

    But the mistress
    Wanted to seduce
    And induce
    And produce
    A sinner
    He wanted to abstain
    Avoid the pain
    And the stain
    Forever

    She said let's go
    He said oh no

    They clashed and fought
    With lust she sought

Her master was at the door
    As they were struggling
    On the floor

    Immediately she went
    On the attack
    What do you do with
    One who betrayed your trust
    Except to imprison
    Or to hack

    In her hand
    Was his shirt
    A relative said,
    With a deep hurt
    "If it's torn
    From the front
    She is innocent
    And he's affront
    And if it's torn
    From the back
    She's lying"
    And did attack

    But his innocence
    Was very clear
    As he showed
    No worry or fear

    Yet, she ordered
    His arrest
    Since punishing him
    Was her essential quest

In his cell, he would pray
O' my Lord of every day
Give me strength in my stay
Be with me in every way
Show them the truth as I say
Teach me wisdom of every ray
Ward their evil and their play
Expose their scheme as it may

    But Joseph was jailed
    For few more years
    Patient, steadfast, and firm
    Shedding no tears

    Two prison companions
    Had shared their visions
    And Joseph foreshadowed
    The imminent decisions

    One would serve the King
    And would be set free
    The other crucified
    And held on a tree

    While the king was having
    A recurring nightmare
No one was able to explain
    Or interpret the affair

    The servant said, my Lord
    Send me with a team
    To Joseph in the prison
    And he'd explain the dream

    Calm and pleased with
    Joseph's wisdom and grace
    The King ordered his release
    And elevated his place

    But Joseph utterly refused
    Till his innocence was affirmed
    They called the lady
    Who confessed and confirmed

    Joseph, the truthful
    And trusted one
    Was now ruling with justice
    And making it run
    Abundant was the love
    And respect that he won
    From all people and places
For the work he had done

    The brothers showed up
    One cold winter
    They were poor and hungry
    Shivering in the town's center

    He recognized them
    But they didn't identify him
    While begging for aid
    He gave them plenty
    Without being paid
He told them I'd give you more
    If you bring me
    Your mother and father
    Sons and daughters
    Your servant and maid

    The father knew
    Deep in his heart
    That Joseph was not dead
    But alive from the start
    He was patient,
    Always praying to his Lord
That one day he'd see him
    Trusting in His word

    But the brothers as always
    Were mocking father in disgrace
    Speaking ill of Joseph
    And showing their true face

    In the town center,
    They assembled
    The majority of the tribe
Before the king, and his soldiers
    The priests and the scribe

    The King then asked
    What have you done
    In time's past
    With a brother
    That you abandoned?

    You must be Joseph,
    Said they,
    Our evil did not last
    Forgive us O' brother
    We're ashamed and saddened

    The eleven brothers
    Then bowed
    With their father
    And mother
    The dream was unveiled
    And justice had surely prevailed

    He took his parents' hands
    And next to him
    They were seated
    The conspiracy was exposed
    Evil was defeated

Ya Allah! - A Poem By Babar Ahmad

    YA ALLAH!

When Adam ate the forbidden fruit, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah forgave him and erased his sin.
When Abraham was thrown into the fire, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah saved him and made the fire cool.
When ordered to sacrifice his son, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah replaced his son with a mountain goat.
When Hagar had nothing to feed her baby, she cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah burst forth for her the Spring of Zamzam.

When Joseph was thrown into the well, he cried “Ya Allah!”
So Allah reassured him of His Help and Victory.
When Jacob became blind at the grief of his missing son, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah restored his sight and returned to him his son.
When Moses fled his land in fear, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah gave him safety in the farmer’s house.
When Pharaoh’s army closed in on them, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah parted the sea for them and drowned their enemy.

When Job was stricken with distress, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah restored for him his health and wealth.
When Jonah lay at the bottom of the sea, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah ordered the whale to bring him to shore.
When David met Goliath, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah gave him victory and Goliath was slain.
When they tried to crucify Jesus, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah raised him up and saved him from crucifixion.

When Muhammad’s followers were tortured, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah opened for them the way to Madinah.
When he was nearly captured in the cave, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah’s spider spun a web and concealed him.
When his army was outnumbered at Badr, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah sent down angels to rout his foe.
When his Companions were massacred at Mauna, he cried, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah avenged their deaths and destroyed the oppressors.

When a ship is tossed by a storm, they cry, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah brings them safely to land.
When trapped in a dark hole, they cry, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah enlightens them with an opening.
When the rope becomes too tight, they cry, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah breaks it and brings them relief.
When they plead for Allah’s Help and cry, “Ya Allah!”
So Allah responds, “Indeed My Help is Near!”

When matters are beyond you, cry, “YA ALLAH!”
And He will aid you and assist you.
When all hope is lost, cry, “YA ALLAH!”
And He will bring you ease after hardship.
When you have nothing left, cry, “YA ALLAH!”
And He will provide for you from where you could never imagine.
When you have no one else to turn to, cry, “YA ALLAH!”
And you will find Him in front of you,
    Hearing and Responding.

    “YA ALLAH!”

    Injustice

    An overwhelming feeling
    Of bitterness
    Emptiness
    Hopelessness
    Helplessness
    Sadness
    Madness

    Of hatred and rage
    Trapped in a cage

    Disappointment and anger
    Continuing to linger

    Wounding of dignity
    Violating your virginity

    Killing of spirit
    Without any merit

    Suffocating the soul
    Banging heads on a wall

    Denial of rights
    Dimming the lights

    Arrogance of power
    The urge to tower

    Personal revenge
    A hand to singe

    Disparaging morale
    Silencing the corral

    Loss of security
    Lack of maturity

    Total indifference
    Complete paralysis

    Internal sufferance
    Utter impotence

    Cold blooded
    Villages flooded

    Abusing a child
    Animals run wild

    A battered woman
    An abandoned orphan

    Showing disrespect
    Evidence that's suspect

    False accusation
    Crying in frustration

    Cursing in fury
    Lying to the jury

    Oppressive laws
    Cowardly foes

    Sense of betrayal
    Acting disloyal

    Civil contempt
    Failure in attempt

    Going insane
    Yelling in vain

    Mental anguish
    A death wish

    And display of malice
    Don't even begin
    To describe the true meaning
    Of injustice

    Innocent

    He's been indicted
    The General decided
    The paper incited
    He must be guilty

    The agent presumed
    Prosecutors consumed
    The judge assumed
    We're sure he's guilty

    The bigots are enthused
    TV is amused
    The public is confused
    But trust us, he's guilty

    Doesn't matter what we saw
    We'll simply change the law
    Call it the final straw
    We think he's guilty

We have him on a call
It may be to a congressional hall
Our goal is to make him fall
    Because we believe he's guilty

    The trial would be perfect
    When guilty is the verdict
Even if the evidence is suspect
Never mind, we find him guilty

But he only spoke his mind
    To people of every kind
    Justice may be blind
But it's been hard to find
    Because he's innocent

Where Would I Be Without the Quraan?

Where Would I BE Without the Quraan?

    A Poem By Babar Ahmad

    Date: 21-Sep-2004

By British Political Prisoner Babar Ahmad MX5383
    13th September 2004

Where would I be without the Quran?
Would I be guided? Would I be strong?
Would I be protected from evil and wrong?
Would I hear my Creator’s Words?
Would I hear Him describe the birds?
Would I know the stories of the old?
Would I realise their worth in gold?

Where would I be without the Quran?
Would I find safety when others fear?
Would I find peace whilst sitting here?
Would I be happy when others are sad?
Would I be protected from going mad?
Would I be patient when things get tough?
Would I be firm when the seas are rough?

Where would I be without the Quran?
Would I get to know the One above?
Would I increase for him my love?
Would I be aware of the Day to come?
Would I value what is worthless to some?
Would I be able to sleep at night?
Would I be able to see with His light?

Where would I be without the Quran?
Would I have examples to follow?
Would I rejoice when others are in sorrow?
Would I have fear of the Burning Fire?
Would I be at the bottom of the sea,
And have hope, that one day, my Lord will release me

Re: Poetry from Our Beloved Brothers..detained

Asallama Alaikum brother/sister Tawbah.I will always Insh'Allah enjoy Dr.Sami Al-Arian's poems.May Allah ease his suffering and decrease the pain of his family Insh'Allah.Let's all pray for his early release. These of his I also enjoy:
Livin' in the SHU**SHU: Special Housing Unit

    Get used to it
    You're livin' in the SHU

    Let's establish some rules
Until you get your next review

    In solitary round the clock
    Enjoy the shielded view

    Your hands cuffed behind you
They may turn black and blue

    Whether sick or not
    Forget seeing the doc
For a stroke or the flu

    You'll be with the violent
    The vulgar and insane
So you'd better get a clue

    You'll be strip searched naked
Every time you leave your cell
    Just makin' sure you knew

    Better check your hearing
    The dissonance is deafening
    Fire alarms are always on
It's like being in a zoo

    There'll be no religious observation
    For your congregation
    Whether Muslim, Christian, or Jew

    You may get one hour
    Of recreation every day
    Enjoy it while you may
    Because that's discretionary too

    Visits have their rules
    See family through the glass
    But friends can never pass
    Whether old or new

    One 15-minute call per month
    Use it wisely
    Or lose it promptly
And wait forever in the queue

    And by the way
    No library today
    Even if you pay
    The charges that are due

You'll have no hot water, no tea, or soup,
No pens, or pads, or watch to tell the time
Though we do not know your crime
    Here your rights are through

    It's all about misbehavior
    And enforcing strict control
Take heed of the wrath of prison patrol
    If you get our cue

    You have not been convicted
But that's none of our concern
    Here's a place you've earned
Lady Liberty is ours to screw

This is about security, you -------
And if you don't like it
Call your lawyer and your accountant
    We dare you to sue

    No Longer Afraid*

    For us to feel "secure"
    What price is being paid?
    If living in freedom
    Why are we afraid?

    Fear is everywhere
    All around
    Perhaps irrational
    But without any bound

You can see it on our faces
    Sense it in our eyes
You can hear it in our whispers
    Feel it in our cries

    Looking over my shoulders
    Unable to speak my mind
    Living in a deviant world
Where the deaf is led by the blind

    What happened to my country
For fear to rule the day?
    How have my people
    Lost their direction and way?

    Why do I seem uncomfortable
Why am I not at ease

    Why do I feel helpless
As if the roots are cut
    From underneath the trees

    Why the bigoted policies
    In our name and honor
    The disgusting abuses,
    Despicable lies and sleaze

    Why am I tongue-tied
    My mind unwittingly closed
    My hands unable to squeeze

    Why acting like a drunk
    Or as one who's affected
    With a deadly disease

    Why are my eyes
    Gazing endlessly
    Unable to focus or cry
    To make demands or pleas

    Why am I hesitant
    To look in the mirror?
    What would I think
    I might actually see?

    A person who's frightened
    Lost his precious soul
    His self-confidence
    That can't be me!

I shall regain my unshakable faith
    My humanity and dignity
    For me to remain fearful
    I couldn't be free

    So come and join me
    My dear sister and brother
    As we embark together
On the path to true freedom
In a mission, paramount and awesome

    To defeat our innermost fears
    Cherish our great values
    Defend our rights
    Old warriors heroically won

    We're no longer afraid
    To speak out minds
    Shout out truth to power
    To stand up for justice
    And march tenaciously in unison
