The holy month of Ramadhan is on the way,
This is when Allah (swt) commands us to fast during the day.

Before Ramadhan comes, we have to make spiritual preparation,
And during it, we have to greatly increase our worship & devotion.

Allah (swt) did prescribe fasting on some of the previous Qawm (tribes),
& he has also prescribed it for us, so that we may become pious through keeping sawm (fast).

During the month, Allah (swt) through his grace & mercy, locks the shaytaan away,
So that it becomes easier for us to fast & pray.

In this month, Allah (swt) puts shaytaan in chain,
So that to Allah (swt) nearness we can gain.

In this month, the gates of Jannah are open wide,
& whoever obeys Allah (swt), in it they will abide.

The doors of Jahanam are shut closed,
But to be saved from, Nafs & Shaytaan will have to be opposed

Allah’s (swt) favourite month is the holy month of Ramadhan
& it was during this month that Allah (swt) revealed the Holy Qur’aan

In Ramadhan, during the first 10 days,
Allah (swt) sends his mercy in various ways

Then from the 11th day to day number twenty
Allah’s (swt) forgiveness will be plenty

Thereafter, in the month’s final third
Allah (swt) will save us from hell, if we follow his word.

In this month, if we do a Nafl, we get the reward of a Fardh act,
So, we have to increase our worship, & take advantage of this fact

Also, when we do a Fardh, the reward is multiplied by seventy,
So, if we make the most of this, our rewards will be plenty.

Through fasting, we have to try & experience what’s felt by the poor,
So that we appreciate what we have, & not always want some more.

Ramadhan should also make us ponder about those who are hungry,
So that next time, when we have less variety of food available, we don’t get so angry

We must also learn to give to those who are needy,
Because that will teach us to be less greedy

When the Ahl Kitaab (people of the books) fasted, they didn’t partake in Sehri,
But we have to, because it is a Sunnah & a time to get Allah’s (swt) mercy.

It is sunnah to offer 20 Rakaats Taraweeh salaah at night
But our nafs won’t feel like it, so against it we have to fight

We have to make effort & Duaa that Allah (swt) saves us from the fire of hell,
& then Insha’Allah, we will be saved, all being well

In this month, we have to read the holy Qur’aan more often,
Because that will be a means for our heart & mind to soften

To please Allah (swt), we have to increasingly recite the Kalimah & ask to be forgiven
& for our own need, we have to pray to be saved from hell & to be entered into heaven.

We have to always make dua that Allah (swt) grants us Jannah,
& also try to act upon more & more of the Holy Prophet’s (saw) Sunnah

We have to make dua that Allah (swt) gives us all hidayaah (guidance)
& then make effort & preparation for yaumul Qiyaamah (day of jfudgement)

To Allah (swt), we have to increasingly & seriously make repentance
Because Insha’Allah in this month, Allah (swt) will surely grant acceptance

We shouldn’t ruin our fast by getting into any kind of fight,
Nor should we argue, lie, swear, slander or backbite

We have to make sure that we observe a lot of Sabr (patience)
& also remind ourselves to prepare for our Qabr (grave)

To Allah (swt), the odour from the mouth of a fasting person is sweeter than musk,
But we should aim to continuously please Allah (swt), from dawn till dusk

During the day & night, it is Allah (swt) we have to abundantly remember,
& also to his will & command, we have to surrender

In this month, we have to always ask from Allah (swt) & pray,
Because he accepts at least one of our duaa every day

In this special month, Allah (swt) gave victory to the holy prophet (saw) & his sahabaah (ra) at the battle of Badr
Also, during this month, Allah (swt) has granted us the gift of Laylatul Qadr

Laylatul Qadr is in the last 10 days, on an odd numbered night,
So, we have to seek this occasion which is very auspicious in Allah’s (swt) sight.

Ibadah during Laylatul Qadr is as virtuous as 1000 months, and more,
But those who don’t take advantage, surely they are ones who’ll be deprived & poor.

We should increase our worship even more during the night of power,
Because if we do, upon us Allah’s (swt) grace & mercy will shower

In the last ten days of Ramadhan, it is a great sunnah to observe Itikaaf
But how great would it be if we could spend the whole month in Allah’s (swt) path

We have to remain engaged in worship, even on the night of eid,
Instead of being very busy in preparing & cooking the stuff we’ll feed

On the morning of eid, the men should go to eid salaah,
Because Allah (swt) forgives all our sins, by the time we get home from the eid gha

If in this month one is deprived of Allah’s (swt) mercy, then they are pitiable & unfortunate,
& woe is unto that person, who is this month, Allah’s (swt) forgiveness, they don’t get.

When the end of Ramdhan comes, our way of life should change for the good,
& then we must make efforts to spend our life in the way a Muslim should.

We have to make the most of the blessed month that’s here,
& the fact that we might not live to see Ramadhan again, should be our fear

But once Ramadhan finishes, we must not be affected by the releasing of the shaytaan
So, we must lead our life according to the Sunnah & the holy Qur’aan

When Ramadhan comes, before we know it, it will finish,
So for all Muslims to spend Ramadhan properly is truly my wish.
