Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

i just want to know, because, me personally, i've never been at peace. it's like i fight everyone and everything. it's like i have a storm inside me and it won't go away. then i see that islam means peace or submission to God and i wonder though. does it really "give" you peace? for the muslim born and the converts, what has being muslim done for you? how has it changed or shaped your view of people of non believers, people like me? for the people who have converted, how has your life changed? has your inner self changed any? are you more calm or more tolerant, than most? i don't know, at times when i think of muslims, i think that most of the older muslims like imaams and such are pretty humble, like they have this sense of calm and tranquility...this sense of happiness with life. that same peace that i myself has yet to feel. and that's why i ask, has islam given any of you, that same sense peace in your life?

Re: Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

Short answer, yes Islam has given me peace and contentment and a feeling of total freedom from worldly matters. As a Muslim I believe that Allah swt knows me better than I know myself, He is my creator so He knows what is best for me. By abiding by His rules and being totally dependent on Him I can let go of any requirements of today’s society and worldly pressures. If I am a total slave to Him then I am a slave to no one else. Knowing that I can completely rely on Him gives me the greatest sense of peace and comfort.

Islam is a complete way of life, it determines how we eat, how we sleep, how we do business, how we lead and every other aspect of our life. In every aspect there is wisdom, which we may or may not fully understand. He understands our needs and gives us the perfect solutions, after all, who else but the Creator will know what is best for us.

Many times in my life, where I have reached a dead end, and as I prayed for Him to guide me, Allah swt has opened ways for me that I could not have imagined. I feel at peace with His decisions for me and I feel peace in His worship.

Having said all that, I have not reached a point where I fully submit to my Creator but that is my ultimate aim and purpose of my life inshAllah. I struggle in my journey and I am often distracted from my purpose but with ever struggle and every test I hope inshAllah that I reach that much closer to Allah swt.

I truly believe that anyone out there who believes in one God and sincerely asks for guidance will be guided to the path of peace, inshAllah.

    - Not a very short answer lol.
Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

    ....If thou knowest not thy God, thou art a slave of men;
And if thou dost, thy slaves are kings and potentates.
The heart’s freedom is kingly; its slavery is death,
It is for thee to decide — to be a king or a slave.

    Greetings Blackbeard,

Yes, Islaam has indeed given me peace. Submission to Allaah (God) gives one peace and tranquility. If you have faith in Allaah and believe in Him sincerely, then you have attained the best peace you can in this life--contentment.

Narrated 'Abdullah: I visited Allah's Apostle while he was suffering from a high fever. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! You have a high fever." He said, "Yes, I have as much fever as two men of you." I said, "Is it because you will have a double reward?" He said, "Yes, it is so. No Muslim is afflicted with any harm, even if it were the prick of a thorn, but that Allah expiates his sins because of that, as a tree sheds its leaves."

    Collected by Bukhari

Whatever happens to the believer is for his own benefit, whether he/she understands it or not.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "If Allah wants to do good to somebody, He afflicts him with trials." Collected by Bukhari

Being a Muslim has done wonders for myself and not only that but for my family. There are times when a believer backslides, yes, it happens, but what is important is learning from that mistake and seeking repentance. No matter what you are not perfect and you will never be. The best person was that of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

Islaam has changed and shaped everything and how I see the world and how I interpret it. It made and continues to make me more conscious of Allaah and more humble about my ownself and efforts. It instilled within me the care for others (Muslim or non-Muslim) and the necessity to help them. It gave me courage to stand up for what is right, it gave me morals that may seem 'too much' to the average person, but are so beautiful and healthy for human society. I can go on and on. Islaam is comprehensive, but moderation and being gradual is important.

Islaam is a lifetime journey and it is not easy. At times, I thought it is too hard, but that is why you have the support of your brothers/sisters who can motivate you and redirect your vision to the full picture when you have lost sight of it and focused on the narrow point.

I swear by Allaah I have learned more about other religions, cried more, stood up more, etc as a practicing Muslim than ever before. However, keep in mind there is a difference between Islaam and Muslims. Not all Muslims practice Islaam. That is where some folks get lost at.

    And Allaah knows best.

May Allaah guide you to the path which is straight and give you contentment in heart. Ameen.

Re: Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

My stormy times were in the first year when I've started to think about God,Universe,Creation ect.I had no rest thinking all the time, then I found all the answers in the islamic religion,it was surprise!A great one

Islam did change my view of non believers.
Now I have to be kind to them, helping ... and in the same time do not be like them.Sounds strange to non muslims,I know

I'm totally happy with my new life,I know who I am;what is my goal and how to achieve it.
A wish you to find peace soon blackbeard88,I think you are on the way,may Allah guide you!

Re: Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

I was born a Muslim, had strong faith when i was younger, and it's always stayed strong but in recent years i wasn't practicing well, i have strenghtened my imaan again recently and i feel so happy. The peace you get with Islam and finding love for your religion is like no other and noone can take it away from you and it is always there. I feel safe knowing Allah is always with me and will hear me. I can communicate directly to him whenever i want and he is always listening.
And Islam has told you how to live your life for your own good. How to create a home with love, peace and harmony and how to utilise your time. Just everything is perfect.

Re: Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

I am a revert to Islam. I did not accept Islam until I was 65 years old. It has had a profound impact on my life. I have given up most of my bad habits that caused me and loved ones much grief. So there is a very noticible external change, that I like and it brings me peace.

Internally I have gained too much to describe I can only express it in terms of feelings. I am now totally relaxed with no fears and by submitting to Allaah(swt) I feel I have finaly gained control of my life.

Just repeat these words with understanding and sincerity aloud to Allaah(swt) right now.

Ash-hadu anla ilaha illal-Lahu Wahdahu la Sharika Lahu wa-ash-hadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu

I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, the One, without any partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.

The very second you say those words with sincerity, understanding of them and with a desire to serve Allaah(swt) You are as much of a Muslim as any person here,be it an old born Muslim or a recent revert. We are all of the same Ummah and all Muslims.

Re: Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

I was born into a Muslim family but I wasn't born into a practising family. I've been practising Islam for over a year now and I believe it has changed me as a person a lot. I have a purpose in life now. I know what I want and I want to work towards that purpose. Islam is peace if you practise it correctly with understanding. If islam doesn't bring a person peace the problem is with the person not with Islam.

    Hope that helps.

BUT THERE ARE SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH CONVERSION. I've tried many times to undergo a conversion process, but I just couldn't. Listen, man, I couldn't do it, ok! I would pretty much just convert and then never practice because I CANNOT. Family would ridicule, no mosques to pray, community would ridicule, prayer would not be accurately done, and I CAN'T PRAY BECAUSE THIS AREA IS VERY SECULAR AND WON'T LET ME TAKE TIME OFF TO PRAY 5 TIMES A DAY. THEY WILL REFUSE ME THE JOB AND GIVE IT TO ANOTHER GUY. I also don't know where to start eating halal.

Islam, isn't for me, I learned that. No offenses, no no, just, very unfortunate impeding circumstances. I just have to give up the dream and walk away because it can't be done and I'm pissed but that's life I'll never become a muslim ever ever no friend, no, not in this time block.

Re: Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

To feel the calm and tranquility of Islam, one needs to bring Islam into their lives, by learning and practicing Islam fully and having full faith in God. You need to feel that God is with you, watching you at every moment. There's no better feeling than knowing that.

Reading the Quraan with understanding is especially important. Read the arabic with translation, if you don't understand arabic, but if possible, then try to learn arabic because nothing can replace the Quran in arabic. You will get peace by reading it.

Re: Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

Islam has set me free I used to be a slave to my desires which didn't really bring any long lasting internal peace, now I'm a slave to God's commands which bring me peace.

What you have to understand is everyone is a slave to something whether it be money, power, or desires when you give up being a slave to all these things like your own desires you truly feel alive and free. When your desires no longer control you, instead your controlling yourself, it's such a good feeling that makes you feel at peace.

And it all comes from obeing the 1 who made you, obeying his commands that gives you this feeling of great peace and freedom.

Re: Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

I revert eight months ago, alhamdulillah, and I have never felt more at peace. I had been searching fruitlessly for a religion that fit for over 12 years, and finally found it. As soon as I said my shahada, I just felt so content, and knew that I had made the right decision. Part of me wished that it hadn't taken me so long to find the path to Islam, but at the same time the strength of conviction that I felt at that moment made all the searching worthwhile. Insha'allah you will feel that peace too one day.

Re: Has Islam given you peace in your lives and inside yourself?

    Dear blackbeard

I was born a Muslim alhamdulillah, but did not have sufficient knowledge of the Qur'an to counter-balance all of the media hype and attacks surrounding Islam since the 9/11 attacks, and thus, my faith was weakened to the point where I "left" Islam for a brief period, which I am deeply regretful of. I thought I had it all figured out.

During this time I became like the non-Muslims up until a point, but I never stopped believing in One God and refused to believe that God could have children or that there simply was no God. But even though I still believed in God, I felt like I didn't know Him any more, and that although I had more freedoms without following Islam I really didn't want or need those freedoms, and pursuing them only left me feeling empty.

I was questioning things which were beyond the understanding of any human - for example why there are so many different communities on earth contradicting one another. When I picked up the Qur'an again I realised that if God wanted to He could have made us one community, but he didn't. There is a reason behind everything that we can't always percieve and shouldn't fool ourselves that we are clever enough to figure out.

I convinced myself that one could be at peace by simply being a humanitarian but I soon learned that when we do not worship God, we replace God with worship of man-made laws, ideals, consumerism, science, celebrity icons, sports icons. It's sad but true, and we often don't realise it. I was hanging around with non-Muslims and their simple answer was to become intoxicated every day to decieve themselves of the empty feeling.

As I come towards finishing the Qur'an for the first time this Ramadan: even though I have been a Muslim since birth 24 years ago I am already more at peace than I have been for 24 years. I am realising Islam is not for Arabs, it is not for Pakistanis, it is not for Africans: it is for the whole humanity. I feel now is the time more non-Muslims in the West will inshallah turn to Islam - everything happens for a reason and God knows best.
