Barrie I'm quite new to this forum but I've been in discussions with many Muslims who claim to have had experience with other religions, Christianity included. Your post is 5 days old but you have had no replies. I wonder how many Muslims in this forum do actually know about your faith or any faith other than Islam!

I in fact posed a similar question and we are having an interesting discussion on it in a thread entitled "But why Islam?". I'm not sure if you've seen it but it would be interesting to get a Christian perspective if you're interested in joining.

Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)."2:136

As you read above it is Article of faith to beleive in all Prophets of ALLAh (swt) and to love them all!

For us Jesus may peace be upon him is great Prophet and we beleive the he were send from GOD as SIGN to us by the way he were born miracly, and we beleive in his Miracles, you have in Quran mentioned his first miracle which you can find only in Quran!

There is whole chapter of Virgin mary in Quran, Jesus may peace be upon him were mentioned in Quran more then Prophet Mohamed (pbuh)!

Jesus (pbuh) were mentioned in Quran as a word from Allah and not as [the word of Allah].

and that he was the Messiah translated Christ (pbuh).

We beleive in His miracles that God supported him with like that he gave life to the dead with God’s permission and he healed those born blind, and the lepers and all this with God’s permission.

    May Allah guide us all!

    Peace

    Peace to you barrie:

I am a revert... meaning... I was born a Catholic Christian and I happen to know and learn about the life of Jesus since Childhood, I used to read those childrens' Bible Stories - ad a collection of volumes of them. I have accepted Jesus as a personal Saviour couple of times as growing up... when I entered the seminary... there was a book "imitation of Christ" and "Fools for Christ." Christ has always been the center of my faith, since I thought of God before in relation to Jesus only... but the concept of the God of Jesus was a bit more harder to absorb due to the programmed trinity concept in my former religion. At any rate, I have always regarded Jesus highly that in order to follow him... we really should do as he does... pray as he does... follow his ways... live according to the gospel... and Pray the right way... I haven't seen any priest, or seminarian living his life in the exact imitation of Christ. In my own experience... my journey to Islam was trigerred partly by the desire to imitate Christ. Jesus said "Carry your cross and follow me" - he meant, carry your burden patiently and follow his example. Jesus prayed prostrating... Jesus prayed saying "Your will be done on earth and in heaven"... Jesus walked on earth without any materialism in his persona... Jesus was bearded, Jesus wore a long robe (but of course, the robe doesn't make the monk), and Jesus said -it is not what enter a mans body that makes him dirty but what comes out... After finding out about Islam just last year... I found all these elements of Jesus in the way of Islam. And if I truly adhere to imitate and follow Christ... all my senses points to Islam.

to answer your question... I have loved and revered Jesus all my life and I have respected him more than ever now that I became a Muslim. Before... I somewhat feel alienated to him... but now, I feel I am in his company.

It was not easy for my to become a Muslim... it was a difficult and hard journey. But since I have surrendered totally and have submitted totally to God - I know I am in His good hands.... and as what Jesus has said... "thou shalt not worry of the morrow, todays grace is sufficient for today." ... moreover, worrying is a byproduct of sin. Since I have confessed all my sins to God directly... and have sincerely repented... I actually felt that I was being born again... "Unless a Man is born again, he cannot enter heaven"... when one enters Islam... one is actually born again.

As you see... all my backup quotes for Islam are from Jesus Christ (pbuh)... because it actually makes sense! and moreover, after reading the Qur'an... everything I have read in the bible OT and NT were confirmed!...

I have always read the Bible objectively, cancelling out the conflicting verses and sticking to the most important as my guide. Like, when Jesus said " I have not come to change the laws"... and "the greatest commandment of them all, is To Love God above all!" - which is consistent with "La Ilaha Illalah!" There is No God but Allah." The message has been one and the same all throughout the Bible history... and it has never been changed... in fact - it was perfected in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

If you read the Qur'an, Jesus is also there... he is the Messiah. "the annointed one"... but not matter how much I love him... I cannot worship him to be equal to his God. and I am not of the hypocrites.

A hypocrite is one who will say that they love and worship Jesus - the son of God... but they never really go the full distance in understanding his gospel... they never really went as far as searching for him in the seminaries, or in any other churches or religion. If we truly regard him as the most high... we musn't be afraid of testing this faith. In this case... we should test if our faith is real Gold... we need to subject it to an Acid Test. In some lingo, we may say - testing it through the fire. I did... and I am happy that I am now able to worship God the right way. Thanks be to God that he used Jesus as the instrument to make me go towards the straight path... and I am more happier now that all the prophets in the past as has alll played a significant role during their times...

If yo want to know more about Jesus... read the Qur'an.

I love Jesus, he is one of Allah's prophets. He is not a God or the son of God. I believe the bible is wrong about him. Even in the bible, it does not say anywhere that Jesus is the son of God.

I appreciate your first couple of statements. And I believe I have learned enough about Isalm to understand where you are coming from in saying that you do not believe him to be either God nor the son of God. However I find discontinuitous your two statements that
    (1) the Bible is wrong about him,
    and
    (2) nowhere does the Bible say that Jesus is the son of God.

If the Bible doesn't say he is the son of God, why do you think the Bible is wrong about him? If you think the Bible is wrong about him, then do you think it is wrong for "NOT saying anywhere" that Jesus is the Son of God?

You see what I mean about making discontinuitous statements.

For the record, as I read the Bible I do see that Jesus is repeatedly referred to in it as the Son of God, even Muslims point to these verses and what they usually point out is that Jesus himself never is quoted in the text as saying "I am the son of God." What is missed is that others are quoted as saying that Jesus had indeed declared himself to be the son of God or even God both in words and in actions. Of course, you are free to believe that these others or the gospel authors themselves are not speaking truth and have invented this story, but the belief that Jesus is the son of God is found in multiple places in scripture. Here is a link to a simple Bible search program www.Biblegateway.com that lists all the times the phrase "son of God" is used in the New Testament. Not all of them refer to Jesus, but most of them do. I won't bog this thread down with a bunch of references or an extensive discussion of the use of the term "son of God", but if you are interested, you might check out more of what I had to say on the subject in this post in another thread.

Also Jesus may peace be upon him said that he is Son of man, so how come he is son of Man and son of God and at same time he is God!?

Also there is huge number of sons in the bible and they always referred to RIGHTOUS people which can only mean Servant or Slave of God!

Who said that when son is used with Jesus in the bible means God and when used as Son to David or hundreds and thousands of sons in the same bible means something else !?

Fact is that Jesus may peace be upon him never said he is God or asked anyone to worship him!

I hope this will not turn to debate, but for sure after Ramadan we can talk more about that!

May Allah (swt) guide us all!

    Peace

As I have mentioned before, Jesus isn't directly quoted saying "I am the son of God" himself, rather others are quoted both (1) referring to Jesus as the son of God and (2) referring to times when they had heard Jesus address himself in this way.

But when you phrased it as "which Bible" rather than which verse, such a comment shows a spirit which, as it comes across to me, does not wish to actually be educated or gain anything from being in conversation with others. It strikes me as only wanting to preach at others.

However, in case I am mistaken and it was a sincere question, the answer is you can find verses which refer to Jesus as "the son of God" in every English version ever produced, as "el hijo de Dios" in every Spanish version, as "hyios tou theou" in every Greek copy of the New Testament. I've already provided a link to them above, but repeat it here in case you missed it: verses in which the phrase "son of God" is used, most (not all) of them referring to Jesus.

    Re: Jesus and the bible

Esa Ibn Maryam (salallahu 3alayhee wa selaam) and Al Hawareeyoun (RA) were muslims and they lived and faught to keep Islam alive alhamdulillah. Roosul Esa (sallahu alayhee wa selaam) is near and dear to us like all the Prophets (sallahu alayhoum wa selaam) of Allah(swt). We accept all of them from Adam (as) to Muhammad(saw). The main difference is we dont believe Esa(sallahu alayhee wa selaam) was killed and nailed to a cross. The account as is told by Allah(swt) in the Qur'an is as follows :

    [4:157]
'That they said (in boast), "We killed Al-Masih 'Isa the son of Maryam, the Messenger of Allah"; but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not.'

    بَل رَّفَعَهُ اللّهُ إِلَيْهِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا

    [4:158]
'Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.'

Al Roosulullah (salallahu also said of Esa (salallahu alayhee wa selaam):

Allah's Apostle said, "You will be resurrected (and assembled) bare-footed, naked and uncircumcised." The Prophet then recited the Divine Verse: "As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it: A promise We have undertaken. Truly we shall do it." (21.104)

He added, "The first to be dressed will be Abraham. Then some of my companions will take to the right and to the left. I will say: 'My companions!' It will be said, 'They had been renegades since you left them.' I will then say what the Pious Slave Jesus, the son of Mary said: 'And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them; when You did take me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness to all things. If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if you forgive them, You, only You are the All-Mighty the All-Wise.' " (5.117-118) Narrated by Quaggas (ra) "Those were the apostates who renegade from Islam during the Caliphate of Abu Bakr who fought them".
-Hadith - Bukhari 4.656, Narrated Ibn Abbas, r.a.-

InshaAllah this settles the comtinuing misunderstanding of the position of Esa (sallahu alayhee wa selaam) in Islam and with muslims.

    Re: Jesus and the bible

Jesus often refers to Himself as the Son of Man in the Bible, but that phrase doesn't subtract from his deity. It is in reference to his humanity and the "mission" He was brought to Earth to fulfill. Just clarifying the Christian perspective on the "Son of Man" title and its significance. No argument intended.
    Jesus and the bible

"Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not, and a sense of humor was provided to console him for what he is."

In my opinion, The Muslim Jesus movie should be watched to understand both Islamic and Christian points of view.

The lost gospels movie will reflect some other points.

P.S. I like documentary movies, easier than reading.

Jesus was a Prophet of Allah who acknowledged that after him would come the True Messenger of Allah - Prophet Mohammad (SWT) and for this he is given a very special place in the world of Islam I feel/believe. To elevate him to anything beyond this is a little in-appropriate I reckon

    Re: Jesus and the bible

good question from brother who posted this thread,

We Muslims believe in Jesus (PBUH) as our Lord told us in the Holy Quran.

    Jesus (PBUH)

Say ye: "We believe in God, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them:[002:136]

    Bible

It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment be tween right and wrong).[003:003]

    Jesus (PBUH) said:

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever." John 14:16

"Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you". John 16:17

So Jesus said whenever i depart i will send him to you, he will not come untill i leave.

In fact when Jesus left Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) came which is prophesied by Jesus (PBUH).

    Jesus (PBUH) said:

Gospel of John chapter 15 verse 26:

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me."

Gospel of John chapter 16 verse 12-14:

"I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you unto all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me".

Mohammad (PBUH) is the only one after Jesus who Testifies and Glorifies Jesus (PBUH) as exactly as Jesus (PBUH) predicted.

Jesus said. He shall glorify me", He shall Testify me".

How will you recognize the coming prophet?

21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?"

22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.

Now visit this site if Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is really the true prophet of God or not.

And by this you just contradict the verses in the bible that says there is nothing like him on earth or heaveb or even underwater, in other words there is nothing like HIM that we know!

But you simply say he is man!

And if you will say that God can do whatever HE wants, then this means that God you talk about cannot keep His words!

So what do you say about this contradicting situation!?

All what I can say is to remember this verse from Quran:

Do they not consider the Qur'an (with care)? Had it been from other Than Allah, they would surely have found therein Much discrepancy.4:82
May Allah (swt) guide us all!

Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Peace and Salutations be upon His Prophet and Servant Muhammad

Viewing this thread I cannot help but be a bit disapointed, it seems like alot of us jumped the gun and started aswering x y and z when the question was regarding w.

It's a common occurrence and I hope all of us Muslims learn to be patient and attentive to questioners and questions.
    Jesus and the bible

The path is long but I hope we meet,
After the grave and the Day, in paradise in bliss upon a reclined seat.

A traveler traveling - travelled from shirk to tawheed,
If I'm remembered for anything - let it be the Mercy I seek.

    Your Bro. Abu Hurayra, al-Habeshi
