What does Islam believe about Christ? This'll probably sound a bit odd but I've heard that some Muslims consider Him to be greater than Muhammad. This confuses me, as Muhammad is considered the final messenger/prophet of God in Islam.

    Re: Jesus Christ

Peace and welcome to the forums.

We believe all of the Prophets(PBUT) to be equal. Muhammad(PBUH) is a messenger as were all of the Prophets(PBUH) before him. He was the final messenger and out of all of the times the word has been given to us, only the Qur'an remains intact and free of error. this is not the work of Muhammad(PBUH), it is the Message that is special not the messenger.

It is true Isa(as) does hold a special part in the hearts of many Muslims, but this is because we know him very well. He is the most often named Prophet(PBUT) in the Qur'an and his words repeated in the Qur'an are the Truth.

    Salam Alekom,

I would like to add to other answers this clear verse from Quran:

Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)." Holy Quran 2:136

    Peace

Please brothe don't be confused, just ask you question.

Jesus is the messenger of Allah (SWT).

brother has provided a verse of the holy Quran which is a complete answer to your question.

Please feel free to ask questions.

    Re: Jesus Christ

    Hello,

Woodrow was trying to make the following point:

Islam teaches us that we must believe in all the Prophets and Messengers of Allah. We should not discriminate between them by accepting some and rejecting others, but this does not mean that all prophets were of the same status. To say this will be against the verse Al-Baqarah 2:253 in which Allah has mentioned that He Himself has given superiority to some messengers over the others.

[...] but it is giving us another important lesson of manners that we Muslims must have when we speak about the prophets and the messengers of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us that we should not speak about him in such a manner that we show any disrespect to other prophets and messengers.
And this is elaborated more in the thread I linked to above.

    Narrated Anas:
The Prophet said, "On the Day of Resurrection the Believers will assemble and say, 'Let us ask somebody to intercede for us with our Lord.' So they will go to Adam and say, 'You are the father of all the people, and Allah created you with His Own Hands, and ordered the angels to prostrate to you, and taught you the names of all things; so please intercede for us with your Lord, so that He may relieve us from this place of ours.' Adam will say, 'I am not fit for this (i.e. intercession for you).' Then Adam will remember his sin and feel ashamed thereof. He will say, 'Go to Noah, for he was the first Apostle, Allah sent to the inhabitants of the earth.' They will go to him and Noah will say,
'I am not fit for this undertaking.' He will remember his appeal to his Lord to do what he had no knowledge of, then he will feel ashamed thereof and will say, 'Go to the Khalil--r-Rahman (i.e. Abraham).' They will go to him and he will say, 'I am not fit for this undertaking. Go to Moses, the slave to whom Allah spoke (directly) and gave him the Torah .' So they will go to him and he will say, 'I am not fit for this undertaking.' and he will mention (his) killing a person who was not a killer, and so he will feel ashamed thereof before his Lord, and he will say, 'Go to Jesus, Allah's Slave, His Apostle and Allah's Word and a Spirit coming from Him. Jesus will say, 'I am not fit for this undertaking, go to Muhammad the Slave of Allah whose past and future sins were forgiven by Allah.' So they will come to me and I will proceed till I will ask my Lord's Permission and I will be given permission. When I see my Lord, I will fall down in Prostration and He will let me remain in that state as long as He wishes and then I will be addressed.' (Muhammad!) Raise your head. Ask, and your request will be granted; say, and your saying will be listened to; intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.' I will raise my head and praise Allah with a saying (i.e. invocation) He will teach me, and then I will intercede. He will fix a limit for me (to intercede for) whom I will admit into Paradise. Then I will come back again to Allah, and when I see my Lord, the same thing will happen to me. And then I will intercede and Allah will fix a limit for me to intercede whom I will let into Paradise, then I will come back for the third time; and then I will come back for the fourth time, and will say, 'None remains in Hell but those whom the Quran has imprisoned (in Hell) and who have been destined to an eternal stay in Hell.' " (The compiler) Abu 'Abdullah said: 'But those whom the Qur'an has imprisoned in Hell,' refers to the Statement of Allah: "They will dwell therein forever." (16.29)

    Re: Jesus Christ

[003:003] It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment be tween right and wrong).

[003:059] The similitude of Jesus before God is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be". And he was.

    Re: Jesus Christ

In Islam, Jesus (Arabic: عيسى, commonly transliterated as Isa) is considered one of Allah's most beloved and important prophets, a bringer of divine scripture, a worker of miracles, and the Messiah. Muslims do not share the Christian belief in the crucifixion or divinity of Jesus. Muslims believe that Jesus' crucifixion was a divine illusion and that he ascended bodily to heaven. Most Muslims also believe that he will return to the earth in the company of the Mahdi once the earth has become full of sin and injustice at the time of the arrival of Islam's Antichrist-like Dajjal.

hope dis helped u understand muslims's perception of jesus christ in islam.

p.s plz any sisters or brother correct me if i made a mistake!
