A Comparative Study about Islamophobia in the UK, France, and Germany

    Report bad ads?

    Assalamu'alaikum warahmatullah!

I am a master student of European Studies and I really need brothers and sisters especially those in these countries help concerning the statistics of Islamophobia phenomena like in hate crimes, verbal abuse in public, the banning of hijab or religious symbol in relation to personal human religious right, and also the one that being boost up by the media in Europe and etc.

I am focusing on three countries of European continent which are the UK, the France, and the Germany since they are among European countries with large Muslim population. I personally think that the UK has the lowest Islamophobia rate compared to the two countries which are the France and Germany since of long period of dealing with their colonies. In this argument, I am trying to use qualitative way of presenting my study through historical argument.

Please help me brothers and sisters. I have no idea at all about Islamophobia phenomena in Europe since I have never been there. The study is conducted in a far way and I am also afraid that I will give bias judgement.

Thank you for your help, may Allah 'Azz wa Jalla bless everyone for your help and support!

Wa alaykum asalam (I know I'm supposed to greet you with the extended greeting if you give it but... I don't know yet inshallah how to return it. Sorry),

I'm from the UK, I have only converted recently, and before I did I didn't really pay much attention to attitudes towards Islam. So I may not be able to help you. But if there's any way I can help, let me know. I do agree with you that in the UK there isn't really too much open islamophobia compared to some other countries but I have noticed it here and there a bit amongst the general population. But as I say, I don't know much so I might not be able to help.

Mashallah, its excellent to hear you have a masters in European Studies. Are you considering to get a PhD or are you going to join a thinktank? You might find the following information useful:

    European Convention on Human Rights

    Muslims in Europe: Country guide

    The Islamic veil across Europe

    Egypt mourns 'headscarf martyr'

    English Defence League

I have no statistics to present but the information above should give you an idea some of the events occurring in Europe. I think it would be useful to be aware of European Conventions on Human Rights (ECHR) because France, Germany and UK are EU members and must comply with ECHR. There are issues about whether the Niqaab ban is a violation of Human Rights. If I find statistics, I'll post it.

I will give you my analysis about the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims in Europe in general later.

I was looking at myself talking to myself and I realized this conversation...I was having with myself looking at myself was a conversation with myself that I needed to have with myself.

    Assalamu'alaikum warahmatullah!

My research update. Currently my supervisors advised me to narrow down my scope of the target country to just one. So I would rather choose UK so that may UK be a good example of other European countries in tolerating multicultural society, tolerance toward differences, peaceful and a succesful country. Hope Muslim brothers and sisters in UK could work together for a better society in your country and continent
