Lightbulb Help for GCSE Students (OP)

Holidays are coming to an end and we are all expected to work hard for the new academic year. Why not?
In which case, I thought it'd be a fantastic idea to approach all the to-be GCSE students and tell them...Don't worry, work hard and remember that all success is from Allah the All Mighty so if at any point you don't achieve the grade you have worked hard for, never give up...I didn't. Allah ALWAYS has something better instore for you.

Every year at school I failed until I sat my GCSEs and proved I COULD do it. And how did I do it? I remembered Allah and did all I could do, leaving all else in His Hands. I passed!

I am in college now, well, I will be A2 after the holidays. So, if anyone needs any advise or any help with their coursework mark schemes. i AM more than WILLING to help. Just PM me if you feel you want to keep it private.

Otherwise, keep your head up high, don't waste your time and work through those books like there is no tomorrow. I can assure you, learning can be so fun once you put your heart into it, because it is then...that you pass and feel you have achieved!

Enjoy the rest of your holidays and like I said, if you have any queries - feel free to ask!

    Re: Help for GCSE Students

    Salam,

Sister dark crystal to understand the concept of equilibrium, I recommend you grasp strongly the concept of reversible reactions.

So lets begin shall we, take your time to read:

    Reversible Reactions

In a reversible reaction the products can react to produce the original reactants again

When writing chemical equations for reversible reactions, we do not use the usual one-way arrow. Instead, we use two arrows, each with just half an arrowhead - the top one pointing right and the bottom one pointing left ( mind my arrows).

    ammonium chloride <--
    --> ammonia + hydrogen chloride

    The equation shows that:

(*)ammonium chloride (a white solid) can break down to form ammonia and hydrogen chloride
(*) ammonia and hydrogen chloride (colourless gases) can react to form ammonium chloride again.

Have a break and then continue!

    Re: Help for GCSE Students

    Now, onto equilibrium...

First I want you to understand the two main terms:

Reactant: A reactant is a substance put together with another subtacnce to undergo a chemical reaction.

Product: A product is a substance formed in a chemical reaction.

    So,

If a chemical reaction happens in a container in which one or more of the reactants or products can escape, you have an open system.

If a chemical reaction happens in a container in which none of the reactants or products can escape, you have a closed system

Reversible reactions that happen in a closed system eventually reach an equilibrium.

    Chemical equilibrium

In a chemical equilibrium the concentrations of reactants and products do not change. But the forward and reverse reactions have not stopped - they are still going on, but at the same rate as each other.

    Imagine.....

walking the wrong way on an escalator - at the same speed as the escalator, but in the opposite direction. Your legs would still be walking forwards, and the escalator would continue to move backwards - but the net result would be that you stay in exactly the same place. This is what happens in an equilibrium. .......I also suggest you try this as it will help you grasp the concept. Lets go shopping!!

Let me know if you understand this so far....

No problem sister. Just make sure you are prepared to work hard and I will do my bit in helping, inshAllah.

Sister with the 'equilibrium' problem, do you undertand the topic or do O need to go over it again?

    Re: Help for GCSE Students

    Salaam,

Woah...I am preparing...(my dad won't rest until I do ) .... I already have a timetable...which is really helpful, but I find myself getting bored and coming on here. But the other sisters...(such as Umm Shaheed and Taggy all know that I haven't been on as much as usual...so Alhamdulillah for that! )

I'm sorted in maths, and english....have a lot of problems in french! But everytime I enter the french thread my head feels like it's going to burst! Anyone want to be my very own french tutor?
