I think bro FFImann is saying that so as to remind us not to bee too criticising/disapproving of reletive marriages.

^ It does. The fact that the Ali (ra) did it and that the Quran allows it, should matter a whole lot when discussing this topic. Because of this, you cannot just dismiss it as Pakistani culture or whatever. I am not a FAN of relative marriages, but certainly not Against them.

I'm pretty confused as to what my next step would be. I can't tell my family because they would tell their family and I don't want to tell her because I don't know how she feels and we have a pretty good relationship (family wise), and I just think that if I tell her and she felt the opposite way, that it would always be weird anytime our families met again, or worse, I would never want to be around her due to embarrassment.

i would just send it through some one. what i mean is get a mutual friend/relative,etc (could even get the local imam to "mediate" between the two families) to ask her what she thinks of a guy that's ....<---and basically a general description (not necessarily physically), etc but without making it known that its you.

or maybe (again through the mutual friend/relative, etc ) what she would think of marrying one of her cousins.

Although this kind of relationship between cousins is a lot more common in the west than people think (by west I mean Americans), this isn't my issue and whether people accept it or not. I don't care. All my life I never thought I would ever be in a position like this and now here I am talking about liking my cousin. I'm in no way against it, but at the same time, I was never really prepared for it.

well things dont always happen the way we want them, but if a good opportunity "knocks on your door" without you expecting it, i advice you to go for it.

it sounds like you really like her...so i would give it a go.

i always considered my cousins daughters/sons as my nieces/nephews



i also ofcourse am aware that the cousins daughters grow up to become non-mahrams and behave in the appropriate manner as required by shariah
