The Month of Ramadhân: Issues Concerning Fasting
    by Abu Eesa Niamatullah
Fasting the month of Ramadhân is indeed one of the great pillars of Islâm, an immensely virtuous act of worship which is loved dearly by Allâh subhânahu wa ta’âla, and likewise bringing supreme rewards from our Creator.

Imâm al-Bukhâri (rahimahullâh) narrated that the Prophet (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,

“When the month of Ramadhân enters, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed and the (major) devils are chained up.”

Al-Bukhâri (rahimahullâh) also narrated the glorious hadîth in which the Prophet (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,

“Whomsoever fasts the month of Ramadhân, with faith in Allâh and hoping for the reward from Him, his previous sins will be forgiven. And whomsoever stands (in prayer) the month of Ramadhân, with faith in Allâh and hoping for the reward from Him, his previous sins will be forgiven. And whomsoever stands (in prayer) Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power), with faith in Allâh and hoping for the reward from Him, his previous sins will be forgiven.”

Both Bukhâri and Muslim (rahimahumallâh) reported that the Prophet (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) also said,

“Allâh, the Exalted, the most High, says, “Every action of the son of ‘آdam are for him alone, a reward with ten more like it until multiplied by seven hundred times, except for fasting for that is for Me alone and I will reward it. He leaves his desires, food and drink purely for My Sake.” The fasting one enjoys two great moments of happiness; when he breaks his fast, and when he meets his Lord. And the (bad) smell from the fasting person’s mouth is better with Allâh than the smell of musk.”
