I want to ask that the use of Emotions i.e. smiles in chat or email comes under drawing pictures?
Answer:
The use of emotional signs, for example, smile, sad, etc. in a cellphone falls in the category of animate pictures.
It is prohibited to make use of such emotional signs in a cellphone.

2 – Her speech should not include anything that may provoke fitnah, such as jokes, soft speech or laughter, such as writing “hahahahaha” as mentioned in the question, or using emoticons to represent smiles, because that may lead to the one in whose heart is a disease being moved with desire, as in the verse (interpretation of the meaning):
“O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allaah), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable manner”
JazakAllah Abdullah my opinions on that have changed alot over time, I still dont know what i think, but on hibatullah I only tend to use the normal smile --> its just so that people feel welcome and can feel the mood of the poster, thats all...buh I dunno
I've wondered about that. I use them mostly so that ppl now how i feel and to avoid ppl getting the wrong feel. But Jazakallah, it leaves something to ponder...

I know exactly what you mean...afterall i'm sure no one uses the emoticons with a bad intention (Allahu A'lam) & the emoticons show that theres people writing these posts...people with feelings that can be expressed through emoticons
However it would be wrong to go against our Ulema too...
