A proposal to replace GMT is made at a conference titled “Makkah, the Centre of the Earth, Theory and Practice” attended by Muslim clerics and scientists.
Doha (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Muslim scientists and clerics have called for the adoption of Makkah time in lieu of GMT, arguing that the Saudi city is the true centre of the Earth. The call was issued at a conference held in the Gulf state of Qatar under the title: Makkah, the Centre of the Earth, Theory and Practice.
One geologist at the Qatar conference said Makkah’s longitude is perfectly aligned with magnetic north and should therefore replace the English city, which has been measuring time zones since 1884, when the United Kingdom was a major colonial power, something that ought to change.
Sheikh Youssef al-Qaradawya cleric, said modern science had at last provided evidence that Makkah was the true centre of the Earth, proof, he said, of the greatness of the Muslim “qibla”—the Arabic word for the direction Muslims turn to when they pray.
Participants of the conference also reviewed the “Makkah Watch,” an invention by a French Muslim which reportedly rotates counter-clockwise and displays Makkah's direction from any point in the world.
The conference is part of a trend called “Ijaz al-Qur‘an” or “miraculous nature of the holy text,” which tries to find precedents for modern science from passages in the Qur‘an.
Someone said to the Prophet, "Pray to God against the idolaters and curse them." The Prophet replied, "I have been sent to show mercy and have not been sent to curse." (Muslim)
Re: Muslims scholars want to replace Greenwich with Makkah Time
great
they dont say plesae people change your timings to our timings. no one is going to do that. they change their own timings first and recognise only that timing, so on a small scale atleast it will become recognised.
Our Lord! Verily, we have heard the call of one calling to Faith: 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed.
Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and expiate from us our evil deeds, and make us die (in the state of righteousness) along with Al-Abrar

Haha.
Should I seek a source of law other than God, when it is He Who has sent down unto you the Book (Qur'an) fully explained? And those whom We have given them the Book know that it has been sent down from the Lord with truth, so be not of those in doubt.

I've heard about this more than a year ago, I remember reading an interview with a scholar saying things about Mecca being aligned with certain magnetic fields, and something about radiation ... it can be found on youtube.
There's a web hoax about Neil armstrong proving Mecca is the centre of the Earth, does it have any connection with this event ... ?
I read the BBC article about the conference, it says nothing.
Can you provide a non-muslim soirce about this? BBC would be fine.

A source to show you what? That Muslim 'scholars' have had meetings saying this?
The path is long but I hope we meet,
After the grave and the Day, in paradise in bliss upon a reclined seat.
A traveler traveling - travelled from shirk to tawheed,
If I'm remembered for anything - let it be the Mercy I seek.
