This version of 'Twas the night before Christmas' was written by a peace keeping soldier
Twas the night before Christmas
He lived all alone
In a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone
I had come down the chimney with presents to give
And to see just who in this home did live
I looked all about a strange sight I did see
No tinsel no presents not even a tree
No stocking by the mantle just boots filled with sand
On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands
With medals and badges awards of all kinds
A sober thought came through my mind
For this house was different it was dark and dreary
I found the home of a soldier once I could see clearly
The soldier lay sleeping silent alone
Curled up on the floor in this one bedroom home
The face was so gentle the room in such disorder
Not how I pictured a lone British soldier
Was this the hero of whom I'd just read
Curled up on a poncho the floor for a bed
I realised the families that I saw this night
Owed their lives to these soldiers who were willing to fight
Soon round the world the children would play
And grownups would celebrate a bright Christmas day
They all enjoy freedom each month of the year
Because of the soldiers like the one lying here
I couldn't help wonder how many alone
On a cold Christmas eve in a land far from home
The very thought brought a tear to my eye
I dropped to my knees and started to cry
The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice
'Santa don't cry this life is my choice
I fight for freedom I don't ask for more
My life is my god, my country. my corps'
The soldier rolled over and drifted to sleep
I couldn't control it I continued to weep
I kept watch for hours so silent and still
And we both sat and shivered from the cold nights chill
I didn't want to leave on that cold dark night
This guardian of honour so willing to fight
Then the soldier rolled over with a voice soft and pure
Whispered 'carry on Santa its Christmas day all is secure'
One look at my watch and I knew he was right
'Merry Christmas my friend and to all a good night'

Twas the night before Christmas
He lived all alone
In a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone
I had come down the chimney with presents to give
And to see just who in this home did live
how many families were kicked out so he could have a house by himself, eh?
I looked all about a strange sight I did see
No tinsel no presents not even a tree
it's NOT a Christian country laddie!
No stocking by the mantle just boots filled with sand
On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands
with half naked girls. i presume
With medals and badges awards of all kinds
A sober thought came through my mind
ran out of booze, eh?
For this house was different it was dark and dreary
I found the home of a soldier once I could see clearly
you mean invader, right?
The soldier lay sleeping silent alone
Curled up on the floor in this one bedroom home
what happened to the family of 8 that used to live there?
The face was so gentle the room in such disorder
Not how I pictured a lone British soldier
more like a terrorist, eh?
Was this the hero of whom I'd just read
Curled up on a poncho the floor for a bed
hero? trying to stop the Taliban from destroying the poppies so there can be cash flow once again in the US and clearing the way for an oil-pipeline to the Caspian?
I realised the families that I saw this night
Owed their lives to these soldiers who were willing to fight
Soon round the world the children would play
And grownups would celebrate a bright Christmas day
yes, far from here children play, while in this neighborhood, surviving one more day calls for celebration
They all enjoy freedom each month of the year
Because of the soldiers like the one lying here
I couldn't help wonder how many alone
On a cold Christmas eve in a land far from home
so terrorizing people in 2nd world countries make it for you, eh?
The very thought brought a tear to my eye
I dropped to my knees and started to cry
found the booze, eh?
The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice
'Santa don't cry this life is my choice
dang, westerners will pray to ANYONE!
I fight for freedom I don't ask for more
My life is my god, my country. my corps'
and by my god, my country , my corps you mean Chase Manhatta, the Federal Reserve, the Bank of England and Blackwater?
The soldier rolled over and drifted to sleep
I couldn't control it I continued to weep
must be strong liquor
I kept watch for hours so silent and still
And we both sat and shivered from the cold nights chill
I didn't want to leave on that cold dark night
This guardian of honour so willing to fight
if he had any honor, he would have chosen going to prison over killing and raping innocent people
Then the soldier rolled over with a voice soft and pure
Whispered 'carry on Santa its Christmas day all is secure'
One look at my watch and I knew he was right
'Merry Christmas my friend and to all a good night'
this is crap, he's there so Israel can harvest organs:
wake up and join the real world! these imperial wars are NOT about freedom!
IF they are, then let the native population implement Shariah! THAT would be freedom!
Had the non-believer known of all the Mercy which is in the Hands of Allah, he would not lose hope of entering Paradise, and had the believer known of all the punishment which is present with Allah, he would not consider himself safe from the Hell-Fire http://www.muftimenk.co.za/Downloads.html
Keep em coming lol. This was written a British soldier, not me....
To the majority of us British our troops are heroes whether we agree with the war or not. There is nobody more braver and more devoted than our troops. You're welcome to your opinion.
Interesting thread. Im assuming its going to turn into a debate on war now ....so my two-penneth.
War in Iraq/Afghan is compeltely unrealistic and should not have started in the first place. However, the troops that we have, hats off to them for the work they do to defend our country(not htat invading afghanistan or iraq is protecting our country)
Its a tough time of year....I remember last Christmas:'(
No need to get aggressive, it is just a poem. I rather direct my anger towards the government.

I'm really, really not interested in any other country other than my own. I am against any war that doesn't threaten our interests or this country. Osama Bin Laden however, needs to be found and sent for torture.
British troops serve and protect this country, I have the utmost respect for everyone of the troops regardless of my opinion on this war...

well, no sh*t sherlock!
Osama Bin Laden however, needs to be found and sent for torture.
i didn't say OBL, i send the mujahideen. that's first up. second up, lets say, for arguments sake that OBL was behind these attacks (i strongly believe he wasn't), what does a country/people hundred of miles away have anything to do with it?!
if a murderer was at was at large in a small town, do you go and attack the people of that town and displace them from their homes in attempt to find this man and bring them to justice?
the attacks happens on your soil, you look for the perpetrators, go on a world wide manhunt do whatever you need to do. what do women being raped have anything to do with it? what do orphaned children have anything to do with it? the logic-if you could even call it that-is just silly.
you have the technology to bring OBL to justice if that really was there purpose for being in Afghanistan, iraq.

There is no evidence that Osama Bin Laden actually carried out the plans during 9/11.
The people who need to be sent for torture should be Tony Blair, Condaleeza Rice, George Bush and Dick Cheeney.
