"Whenever you begin to hold on to things in this life, Allah lets you know that nothing is permanent but Him. All your life you learn to love things, as soon as you get real close, Allah snatches it away from you. Just to let you always know to remember to be humble, always put your trust in Allah. Not money, not material things, but in Allah."
- Imam Siraj Wahhaj
"Allâh is sufficient for me. None has the right to be worshiped but He, in Him I put my trust and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne."[Tawbah: 129]
"I don't smoke but I keep a match box in my pocket. Every time my heart slips towards sin,
I light a match and place my palm over it. I then say to myself, oh Ali, you can't even bear this heat,
then how will you bear the unbearable heat of Hell-fire?"
- Muhammad Ali
If you begin to live life relating to the God who is all around you, every moment becomes a prayer.
Sin is not hurtful because it is forbidden,
but it is forbidden because it is hurtful.
Nor is duty beneficial because it is commanded,
but it is commanded because it is beneficial.
It is pointless to watch other people's houses crumbling when our own house is in need of repair and attention.
The Prophet] David (peace be upon him) once said:
“My God , how can I thank You, when my thankfulness to You is itself a blessing from among Your gracious favors?”
So Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) conveyed to him by way of inspiration: “Now you have thanked Me indeed! .”
It is pointless to watch other people's houses crumbling when our own house is in need of repair and attention.
“Thankfulness for thankfulness is more complete than simple thankfulness . This means that you regard your thankfulness as the result of His enablement [tawfiq], and you have received that enablement on account of the gracious favors bestowed upon you, so you give thanks to Him for the thankfulness He has enabled you to experience. Then you thank Him for the thankfulness-upon-thankfulness, and so on ad infinitum.”
It is pointless to watch other people's houses crumbling when our own house is in need of repair and attention.
“Thankfulness [shukr] means that you do not look upon yourself as worthy of the gracious favor you have received.Verily, you will not arrive at pure freedom as long as you see any trace of your servitude to God emanating from yourself.” al-Junaid (RA)
It is pointless to watch other people's houses crumbling when our own house is in need of repair and attention.
If my thanking Allah for His blessings is a blessing,
then I must thank Him in the same measure again.
How can one thank Him save by His grace
as time goes on, and life goes by?
My only excuse is that I am inadequate
but my excuse is a confession that I have no excuse.
Ibn Abi’l-Dunya
It is pointless to watch other people's houses crumbling when our own house is in need of repair and attention.
Hatim al-Asam said, “The one who delays four things until four others will find Paradise – sleep until the grave, pride until the accounting [of good and bad deeds], repose until after the crossing of the Siraat, and desires until entering Paradise.”
It is pointless to watch other people's houses crumbling when our own house is in need of repair and attention.
Hatim Al-Asam said, “Four things are not appreciated except by four types of people – youth is not appreciated but by the old, freedom from worries is not appreciated but by those afflicted with calamities, health is not appreciated but by those in poor health, and life is not appreciated but by the dead.”
It is pointless to watch other people's houses crumbling when our own house is in need of repair and attention.
"For a lot of people, the formula for bringing light into their lives is to remove the darkness.
It doesn't work like that. You cannot take a bucketful of darkness and throw it out the window.
Try the other way - just bring in the light, and the darkness will automatically leave."
