There are many books you can read on the subject sister, but here's a very VERY VERY VERY brief version pertaining somewhat loosely to your question - this is my opinion btw, but it is based on the opinions of others who have written books on the subject:
Mahdi will be recognised at the age of around 40 yrs, he will rule for 7 years, and he will be spotted first between Medina and Makkah. The abdaals will know who he is - even tho he doesnt suspect himself of being the mahdi. When Mahdi reaches the kaaba, the abdaals will force him to take bayaah from them. The Mahdi will refuse but after a night of some contemplation - something will happen, his heart and soul will be purified and he will be ready to take the bayaah from the abdaals. And he will march on forth, towards Jerusalem. At the gate of Lud, Isa AS will descend, and Isa AS will pray salah behind Mahdi AS - then the army will march out to meet dajjal and his army, and the breath of Isa AS will kill the dajjal... the khalifa will be re-established and then the years of peace will follow, in that time, Mahdi AS will die and Isa bin Maryam AS will rule over the Khalifa...
Brother Scimi the Khalifa will be re-established after the arrival of Mahdi ? not before ?
I find this in french : " Selon Al-qurtubî : le Mahdî passera vingt années au Maghreb, douze à Kûfa, douze à Médine et six à la Mecque "
Which means " According to Al-qurtubî : the Mahdi spent 20 years in the Maghreb, 12 in Kufa, 12 in Medine and 6 in Makkah "
Is this hadith is authentic (sahih = sa7i7) ?
if yes, what does it mean ?
His [the Mahdi's] aim is to establish a moral system from which all superstitious faiths have been eliminated. In the same way that students enter Islam, so unbelievers will come to believe.[7]
When the Mahdi appears, God will cause such power of vision and hearing to be manifested in believers that the Mahdi will call to the whole world from where he is, with no postman involved, and they will hear and even see him.[8]
I heard the Messenger of God say: "The Mahdi is of my lineage and family […]".[9]
We know his name's father and mother. His name. His physical description.
How is it possible that's nobody (his parent or himself or...) will recognise him before that Allah (swt) has decided that he will be sent.
Futhermore there are many signs that will precede him.
Wikipedia:
The Mahdi will be an ordinary man, born to an ordinary woman.
The Prophet Muhammad said:
" The world will not come to an end until the Arabs are ruled by a man from my family whose name is the same as mine and whose father’s name is the same as my father’s.
"The Mahdi is of my lineage, with a high forehead and a long, thin, curved nose.
I have mailed sheikh Imran Hosein about it. I'll keep you posted as soon as I receive an answer InshAllah.
You'll be waiting a long time.... you might be better off just checking his site and downloading the pdf books he has there - they are free.
Sheikh Imran N Hosein hardly has time to respond to the plethora of emails he gets... I can imagine his face when he sees his inbox lol <-something like this... Like I said, he's incredibly busy. If you do get a response, please share it. You'd be the first I know to get one back...
Wow, omg, seems like he would arrive very soon. would we get to see him in our lifetime?
Well that depends on whether we're alive long enough to witness his imminent arrival. It could be within the next 7 yrs - or the next 70, or even the next 700. Allah knows best...
...Evidences suggest that the time is close now. Real close.
I wonder if you've seen this:
This shows that preparations for dajjal are already in place - even in Arabia... kinda makes you wonder don't it?
Part two releases this month, which exposes a lot more with regard to the importance of symbology and the dajjalic influence in the Hijaaz area of Arabia... Shocking? You bet... I'll keep you posted.
I have mailed sheikh Imran hosein twice and I got a prompt reply for both of my mails to him. maybe I'm lucky. first one was about a book recommendation and he referred me his book signs of the last day. So I bought it. this time I asked him a few questions out of my curiosity but he said he doesn't have an answer to any of my questions. I don know maybe my questions were not wise. let me paste his reply here
Assalamualaikum,
I have a question regarding Imam Mahdi's rulership. The hadith says he would rule for 7 years. That 7 years, would it be like normal earthly 7 years or heavenly 7 years? whats the calculation of it?
Is true that Prophet Isa (pbuh) would rule for 40 years? or same 7 years? what are the calculations of these years?
The hadith also says Imam Mahdi's father's name would be Abdullah. I have heard his mothers name would be Amina. are these information authentic?
In one of your lectures you said something about the rulership of the dajjal. how long would he rule for? how many years later of the dajjal's arrival would the Imam arrive?
Hoping to hear from you soon
JazakAllah Khair
Imran N. Hosein
wa 'alaikum assalaam!
Thank you for your email.
The sources of our information (Qur'an and Ahadith) do not provide answers to your questions.
Exactly, I was gonna say just that! No hadeeth provides timeframes between the arrivals.
But, if you study hadeeth with tafsir and recognize what is going in the world today - you can draw some real parallels.
I am in no position to actually promote my opinion on the matter as it is conjectural, and maybe taken by some too literally - so to refrain from the fitna of leading others into a wrong belief - i'll refrain.
All I can really say is - the time is close. memorize al Kahf, first ten and last ten ayahs of the surah atleast...

Thanks brother. I just asked him those questions because he calculated the days of the dajjal. one day like a heavenly year, one day like a heavenly month and one day like a heavenly week and the rest of the days are like normal earthly days. So, how did he calculate that?
Subhanallah, this is frightening. As one brother here said, the time is really close. Because most of the signs during the prophets(S.A.W) time and after have already happened(if not all), there are the big ones left.
What we also forget is how near the death is, really. We dont even think about it and we can die NOW. We muslims should think about that instead of qiyamah all the time. When you die, then its over. Either a hell is waiting for you or a jannah. May Allah rescue us from his punishment.
I wish I could devote all my life to Islam fulltime, going on tabliq, learn much more about Islam, be with my muslims brothers. But I go to university and stuff...

Asalaam O Alaikum....
I also think the same and Allah (swt) will give you a chance if you make Dua to Him for all the things you mentioned InshA'Allah.

You need to read his book "Surah Kahf and the Modern Age" from his website ....it explains the time dimensions and how he came to his calculation.
Btw i personally believe that 7 years and 40 years have a symbolic meaning. I know that "Seven" or "Seventy" in Arabic means Several or Many. So 7 would probably mean several.
and 40 could be a long time period because consider this hadith...
Narrated Abu Dhar: I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Which mosque was first built on the surface of the earth?" He said, "Al-Masjid-ul-,Haram (in Mecca)." I said, "Which was built next?" He replied "The mosque of Al-aqsa ( in Jerusalem) ." I said, "What was the period of construction between the two?" He said, "Forty years." He added, "Wherever (you may be, and) the prayer time becomes due, perform the prayer there, for the best thing is to do so (i.e. to offer the prayers in time)." (Bukhari)
If we take this hadith and try understanding it literally then it would be impossible to believe that period between their construction was exact 40 years. History informs us that time period between the construction of both was huge. So it cannot be 40 years and so 40 years could have a symbolic meaning.
I think that our kids will live a very hard time.
My brother in law who often dreams of El Rassoul (SAW) MachAllah, he said me to raise my kids to be ready to defend Islam.

SubhanAllah brother, trust me, it seems like you've just copied and pasted my view on this matter, which I felt shy to speak out about it before. I'm not usually bothered about the end times prophecies. Thats why my books about the end times are still untouched lol, coz I want to know other sides of Islam first to become a better Muslim and spread the message of Islam InshAllah.

Salaam.
Thanks for this explanation brother. Actually I found it hard to accept that after all the battle and struggles, the rulership of Mahdi would last for only 7 years coz 7 years goes like a blink of an eye.
Just so you know, if you are UK based, you can attend this event on the 21st of this month - which falls on a Saturday: Imran Hosein will be speaking to a UK audience for the FIRST TIME, via a live satellite link up. Almost all the places are gone so if you want in - confrim your places... (can you imagine the QA session afterwards? - you know that!!!!)
The legendary Shaykh Imran Hosein has confirmed his participation in a UK Conference for the first time!
Could be and Allah (swt) knows best, since Imam Mahdi will be living with Isa (a.s) and they both will be together and Isa (a.s) would rule for 'Forty Years' then may be after the Battles are over Imam Mahdi (a.s) will die soon and Isa (a.s) will replace him as the Khalifah. Then he will live longer and the reign of Khilafah Ruler ship would actually last long but the only difference would be that Isa (a.s) will be the Caliph and not Imam Mahdi (a.s).
So the Caliphate would last long but Imam Mahdi (a.s) would be a Caliph for short period of time and Isa (a.s) would be his successor and rule for a longer period of time. And Allah (swt) knows best.
