    Racism

Islam is against all forms of racism and bigotry. Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another, or one color of skin is superior to another, or the people of one country are superior to another. Such beliefs are the characteristic of pre-Islamic ignorance (jahiliyyah). In Islam, we believe all races are equal to God and the only characteristic that makes someone superior to another is righteousness (taqwa). God has dignified all of the children of Adam, all human beings and all races in the world. Quran clearly states that :

"We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with definite preference". (Surat Al-Isra 17:70)

The best part of Islam that it discourages racism, and this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem 1400 years ago and honored human being with equal rights. Having a good relationship and Unity among people is very important and it can bring many virtues and goodness to society. Society is the reflection of the people. Obviously, racism, disharmony and hatred these traits are like a cancer to the society, can destroy the charm and beauty of the society. The best part of Islam is that all are equal in the sight of God.This idealogy unite the people, this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem. It is the need of the hour. Humanity must sincerely gather together and adopt this attributes of Islam.God has dignified all of the children of Adam, all human beings and all races in the world.

"O people, We have created you male and female and made you nations and tribes that you may know one another. Verily, the most noble of you to Allah is the most righteous of you. Verily, Allah is knowing and aware". (Surat Al-Hujurat 49:13)

When we say Islam is the religion of Humanity so it’s absolutely true. Islam declares equality among people, this is because Islam respects a human for being a human and not for any other reason, and all races are equal to God and the only characteristic that makes someone superior to another is righteousness (taqwa). There are no sort of discrimination in Islam, in practice as well as in theory.

Prophet Muhammed pbuh was against racism and he displayed this not just verbally but also practically by setting an example of Bilal RA. He was a black Muslim who was the first muazzin in the history of Islam. Prophet Muhammad pbuh addressed us, signifying this concept during his last pilgrimage (the farewell sermon) saying:

"O people, your Lord is one and your father Adam is one. There is no virtue of an Arab over a foreigner nor a foreigner over an Arab, and neither white skin over black skin nor black skin over white skin, except by righteousness. Have I not delivered the message" ? (Source: Musnad Ahmad)

Here is a very interesting confession about the Western civilization by Prof. Richard Dawkins in his recent debate against Alister McGrath, in England, ‘Everyone in this room a 100 years ago would have been a racist.’

Then Dawkins asks the question, where does the equality or other positive morality come from? May I suggest that human equality comes from the Holy Prophet Muhammad and Islam! Arnold Toynbee, the famous British historian seems to agree with me, when he writes:

The extinction of race consciousness as between Muslims is one of the outstanding moral achievements of Islam, and in the contemporary world there is, as it happens, a crying need for the propagation of this Islamic virtue. (ArnoldJ Toynbee .CIVILIZATION ON TRIAL, New York, p. 205)

Let’s Unite against racism, Each one deserves equal right and equal treatment.
