It depends on what religion the cat is. If the cat is a pagan then cremation would be fine. If it is a Muslim, Christian or Jew it would need to be buried. If you are not sure of your cats religion, you could put the cat in a deep river or sea. Thereby bypassing the issue of cremation or burial.
