Hehe, very sorry...Just noticed that most replying are sisters ^^;;

"Khan" is a title used by Pathans, particularily of the Lodi clan (which I belong to), which means "Leader". What does the Arab word mean? This "Khan" is derived from of Altaic origin, common in languages such as Mongolian, and Turkic languages such as Uyghur, Kazakh, Turkmen, etc. The Pashtuns (Pathans in India) adopted this as a title after the Mongolian Khanate conquest of Afghanistan, and it ended up becoming a common surname with the Lodi Pathans as well as Rajput converts to Islam. It also became a title awarded by Muslim rulers of India who awarded it to individuals for acts of bravery.

For me it is my surname. My full name is (I don't mind revealing it) Minhaj Ahmed Khan.

btw, I made this signature, which I plan to resize now. How do I add a signature? Do I need to wait until I'm a full member? Can I add a custom avatar?

I don't think there's any similarity to the true meaning of Khan in Muslims because Islam made everybody equal. There should never be a hierarchy in Islam.

Although I was born in a Sunni family, I consider myself neither Sunni, nor Shi'a, nor Ibadi. I am a Muslim.

That bit stood out of the post most. :D

:welcome: to the forum! I wish you an enjoyable and beneficial stay!

Jazaka Allahu Al-Jannah for explaination..I dunno a specific translation for it but you can say it is like a hotel in our days..Ahlu alsham(Syria,Jordan, lebanon and Palestine) used to call a hotel as "Khan" ..wallahu a'lam

Haallo Freshie =)

How you?

Welcome to the forum,

Be good or else I'll beat you up ;D, you sound like an extremely mature young lad,

Looking forward to your threads!

Jazakallah Ali and Pk_#2! ^.^

Lamees, that's very interesting, lol! I assumed it might have been of pagan origin when you said that it was used in the past! xD

Yes, that's true. I like my name, however. I don't believe in hierarchy too. When it comes to the caliphate, the most controvertial topic which lead to the Shi'a - Sunni Schism, my view is plain and simple - I don't believe in democracy (sunni view), it consider it a failiure. I don't believe in monarchy (Shi'i view), I consider it a failiure. I believe in appointment. I believe Muhammed (SAW) appointed or recommended Hazrath Ali as the first Caliph, but due to tribal politics, Abu Bakr was elected. I support the Ibadi view when it comes to the Caliphate - it doesn't matter whether the caliph is elected by the shura or inherits the post by lineage, as long as he's a just, righteous, and an able Muslim.

I am very healthy, Alhamdulilah!

I am very nonviolent these days, although I used to be a fighter. In Urdu, we say "Pathan sher ka bacha hein", which means "A pathan is the son of a tiger". It's too easy for me to lose my temper, easier so for my father. His name is Irtiaj, which means "the one who thunders"! XD

Don't worry, as much as I love to discuss controversial topics, I abhor indecent posts and flaming. ^_^

Carry on like this in this thread and you'll be quickly a full member and you'll be able to edit whatever you want lol.

Btw, what's the Arabic word for "sister"? We use bhai (brother) and behen (sister) very rarely here in India. :(

Ahh I see,

Is flaming the same as flooding?

Nice to know, you're very close to becoming a full member,

Keep it up akhi.

I'm sorry, I don't know what flooding is. Can you please tell me? Flaming is when one uses personal attacks.

Okhtee... Thanks Okhtee! ^_^

It's like multi-posting the same thing or useless different things, sometimes people do it accidental, but it only counts as flooding when they post the random things in a row, usually it's done to increase post count, or trolls do this to advertise etc.

Ah, I see, I usually consider that as spam. I did that once when I was 13 at soldat forums...wanted a corporal rank... got a fine of 20 posts :(
