There is this little pesky detail called reality. This isn't about who is "good" and who is "bad". If all the people on this board who make a great show of compassion and sadness about the deaths of Palestinians actually wanted to protect them the discussion would be about ways to stop the violence. The way to stop the violence is to stop giving Israel all the justification it needs to strike Gaza. Firing rockets into Israeli territory is all the justification it needs. Both in terms of foreign perception and domestic politics. Many people and states use the Palestinians for their own ends. Very few actually care whether Palestinians live or die.

1. Long Live Hamas. May they fire as many rockets as possible. Hamas are freedom fighters who are retaliating to these Israeli terrorist and protecting their land. May Hamas ruin Israel!

Yes, there are protests. Many people have honest sympathy for the plight of the Palestinian people. However, the context of that sympathy is the key. There are those who wish to stop the suffering in Gaza, and then there are those who say they wish to stop the suffering in Gaza.

How did you turn that into support for Israel? Why do you think cheerleading while Hamas fires rockets at Israel is showing compassion for Palestinians? I get the sense that you are relatively young.

Look mate we don't need to suck up to isreali wants. The reality is that this violence will not end till what belongs to us, is returned to us, simple as that. Don't look at us as if we are weak, we don't need to give in to a oppressors' wants.

Read a little history. Constantinople was stolen by the Turks in 1453 where they destroyed Church of the Holy Apostles. Before that time the land belonged to Roman Christians.

Pakistan is actually a part of India and was forced on the Hindus in 1947.

So if you want to use the "but looks like they're ours" argument the Israelis can claim the same thing.

I think both of you are right to a certain extent. Keltoi, although i see your point, i think often you tend to look at the situation in a very simplistic sense. Because even if the rockets did absolutely cease, it wouldn't necessarily translate into an expedtion of the peace process or greater international sympathy for the Palestinian cause. Israel would still be able to claim that based on historical incidents such as the wars against the neighbouring states, that they are still surrounded by nations that are seeking israel's liquidation and will associate such sentiments with elements within the Palestinians themselves. Even if such elements were to miraculously not exist, Israel has the means to create them and so consequently carefully cultivate the justification for increased militarization.

Also, you keep forgetting, the original sin befell the Palestinians. They have, and im sure any conscionable and reasonable person would agree, the right to exist and resist occupation. The very same towns of Sderot, Ashkelon etc that tend to face Palestinian rocket fire, are the same areas from where the Palestinians where uprooted and banished. So it must be seen in that context.

Adeel, we also as Muslims have to recognize that engaging in patient diplomacy whilst sticking to our principles doesn't mean pandering to zionist forces or selling our souls as an Ummah. We need to also recognize certain historical facts, e.g, such as the fact that there has been a historical jewis presence in Palestine just as there has been a presence of other nationalities and ethnicities too, and work assiduously towards establishing a just solution which will inculde reparations for the Nakba and the horrors and injustices against the Palestinians that transpired since.

Back in the olden days, it was fair to take over once's land by force if they are capable of it. Are we still living in the 15th or 16th Century?
