Cancelling notification of private messages

I have never received notifications of private messages, but suddenly I do.
It's not a change I have made, so I assume it is a forum change.

How can I cancel those notifications? I visit Li most days and I don't really need to be notified ...

I wonder if it's intended to draw more 'old members' into the forum ...
After all, an email notification is a good way of reminding people to pop into the forum. Are we trying to boost visitor numbers?

I think it may have been to get more members to view the advertisement, though I can't say for sure.
 
I wonder how much the sale of halal skin products increased following our advertising campaign here in LI ... :D
