Tiger Khan Ki Pasand :X

koi saleeqa ha arzoo ka
na bundagi mery budagi ha
ya sub tumhara karam ha AQQA
ka bat ab tak buni hoi ha

Bachpan ki kuch yaadein...

bulbul ka bacha
khata tha kichri
peeta tha pani
gata tha gaane
mere sarhaane
bulbul ka bacha
ik din akela
betha hua tha
mein ne uraya
wapis na aaya
bulbul ka bacha

Ohh ohh here's one that I remember reading in grade 1 or 2, can't remember

Utho Beta ankhein kholo
Bister chhoro aur moon dholo
Itna sona theek nahi hai
Waqt ka khona theek nahi hai

Suraj nikla taare bhaage
Dunya wale saare jaage

Tum bhi utho bahir jao
Achhe waqt ka lutf uthaao

=D

MashaAllah sab ko apna bachpan yaad aa geya. Jazakumullah khayr. Kahin bachpan mein chakker ke bharhape ko na bhool jana.

Urdu books in India? You mean for the school? That's an optional language to learn. Not all schools teach you urdu. Hindi is a must.
yeh, I meant for school. I asked because your response to my poem made me realize that we probably don't have the same urdu school books. Funny.. that never crossed my mind before.

We did have urdu at school, Alhamdulillah.

Hamdulillah I can tell

I know that bulbul poem. Learned in primary school. Sadly they did not teach us Punjabi, my native tongue.

I don't think Punjabi is taught anywhere, is it?
:sl:

In Pakistan it is. My cousin studied it. He had a book in Punjabi (Urdu letters writing Punjabi words). But that was after matric level, it was either FA or BA, can't remember exactly. But I don't know if it's taught at a basic level or not.

:sl: Wow sach mein? What made your cousin study punjabi? It's an unusual choice language.

waise... agar hum urdu mein 'urdu thread' kahen, to keya humein 'urdu dhaaga' kehna parega? lol :?

Why is Punjabi an unusual choice? Its older than Urdu. I agree that it was a vernacular and Urdu started the whole literature process but Punjabi captures the feelings of common people which Urdu misses due to its sophistication. I like both languages (read my signature :D), of course but the negativity against Punjabi by Urdu speakers, I hate it. Because Punjabi is a beautiful language and because it is my mother tongue. Anyways.

My cousin also studied Punjabi in his BA in a university in Faisalabad. I never got to live in Pakistan during my university and higher education days and hence I never got a chance to learn it. But I do speak and understand daily typical Punjabi but when people start getting sophisticated, I miss every single word. I did not know for example that Sanjhi meant isolated/desolated.

Wa alaykum assalaam,

Yeah, sachi muchi! I think quite a few people do it (or Urdu) because the languages are viewed as being less demanding than say the sciences etc. It's viewed as the easy option to study something, but still get a qualification at the end of it.

I agree completely. In fact even some Punjabi speakers have an inferiority complex about Punjabi and speak Urdu with their kids, so that their kids now don't know Punjabi. And I agree that feeling that you can capture in Punjabi, you lose in Urdu.

Neither did I. Also remember that there are different dialects. And TheTh Punjabi is a different thing altogether...

That made me laugh. Shame we can't have a Punjabi taaga.....
