SubhanAllah, I love this surah. JazakiAllah Khair for sharing this wonderful recitation ukhti pearl.

salaam

thanks for the reminder - hopefully some people will heed it.

peace

I believe this is a much more clear and better recitation because this appears as God is actually addressing you.

JazakiAllah khair sis Pearl for the recitation, Mahir Al Mu'aigli is one of my favorite reciters.

What was the point of the video?

It didn't convert me to Islam!
Trying to be funny in your first post here? ^o)

No one force you to listen to it, or even to "convert" to Islam! its just a "message" you can accept it or reject it! read the title again

There is no compulsion in religion, for the right way is clearly from the wrong way. Whoever therefore rejects the forces of evil and believes in God, he has taken hold of a support most unfailing, which shall never give way, for God is All Hearing and Knowing [Quran 2:256 ]

No, I was just asking. I thought the video would have a strong message to all the non Muslims to join the Islam's way.

Why you thought I was joking, because I'm atheist?

The video is more appropriate for Muslims, and it don't look like a message to the non believers. I hoped the video would have some more facts about the Qur'an so we could discuss them.

No! not because you are an atheist. But because you "like many others" think that we are here to "convert" non-muslims!
All what we have to do is convey the message not force people to be Muslims. Its up to them to chose what they want after that.

Allah says:
"and if they turn away, then it is thy duty only to convey the message (unto them)"[Quran 3:20]

Peace!

thank you sister pearl for the reminder. usually these kind of reminders are directed at Muslims but its nice to know that people also extent them to non-Muslims as-well. unfortunately excluding non-Muslims from hearing about Islam is often "practiced." may Allah guide us.

Why do they always "recite" this like it is some sort of song? That's probably good for those who already believe (like gregorian chants or something). But it is more than a little alienating and off putting to outsiders. Can they not simply speak it?

^i've had non-Muslims listen to recitations of quran in the manner you describe and they have said it sounds nice. nothing mentioned about being off putting and alienating.

however yes, it would make sense that a hate monger may see it like that. no real surprises there.

Why are there recitations? simple:

[FONT=Verdana,arial]73:4 ----- and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones.

Many reciters and many styles to recite make it appealing for everyone.. I don't however agree to cast pearls before swine.. There is no point in my humble opinion to offer a message to folks who don't desire it.

They could make it less nasally. And maybe add a drum beat. Than I could dig it. :shade:

This is one of the marvels of the Qur'an and why nobody has been able to write as much as a single equivelant line. The Qur'an is the only piece of Arabic tonal writing that makes sense. The tonal quality comes from the specific placement of the words. Each word if pronounced properly can be thought of as being a note. While it is possible to write tonal poetry, it becomes pure nonsense as nobody has been able to arrive at achieving the tone and have the words be logical and sensible. Every other bit of informative writing, in Arabic, sounds quite gruff with a somewhat Germanic guttural sound to it.

Even for a non-Muslims the literary uniqueness of the Qur'an is quite an accomplishment. No other known piece of literature has the same vocal quality and retains a sensible meaning.
