When I see sisters who don't wear hijab I don't understand it but I don't judge them. Allah(swt) knows best the good and bad points of each person. I would like to advise some of my friends who don't wear it but I don't know how to mention it in a way that doesn't come across as criticism, or as if I think I'm better than than them, which I don't. Any advice?

There is no need to be direct my beloved and precious sister; you just come from another way..like: expressing your love for your hijab and how much you feel happy and secure wearing it; how much it is dear to ya and how you felt the first time wearing it and how you feel wearing it now...

you can start with the phrase: Do you know what I do love the most as a muslim woman (you mention what you love about Islam and hijab will be from those things)...

it is not to stop advising others but to know how to do so in the best manners...every single person has his/her own key; you just need to find that key; unlocking doors; showing beauty in a very polite, nice and simple way ; addressing others minds and of course according the law of Allah.

The thing is, some sisters have directly asked me questions like: 'I'm sick of people criticising me for not wearing hijab. Do you think it matters that I don't wear it?'

and you tell her: it is not for a one who believes in Allah ; reciting His Noble book and living according its laws to criticise others and be harsh with them but to have the manners which Allah brought us upon which is kindness , justice and respect. and yes my sweetheart, it does matter cause this is the law of The Most Merciful and of course if there was no use , great goal and wisdom behind that ruling then we wouldn't be obliged to adhere to...and none on earth has the right to force ya to do it; this is between Your Creator and you and they only have the right to remind ya in a good nice way and even pray for ya...and about hijab; then you can try to have it on gradually till you are used to it and I asure ya my love that you will love it cause with time; it will get to be a precious part of ya and will be so hard giving it up...

and you can do it your way but only need to know how to treat others and nothing like the teachings of The Most Perfect Who knows all of His slaves and servants.

and Allah knows the best.

As salam Alkium everyone
3 years after I last posted on this thread, Im still wearing hijab. I dont wear niqab often, only in London, Bournemouth and other Muslim strong areas in the UK. I dont currently live in 1 of those areas.
I wear loose fitting clothes most of the time. When I go to my horse riding school for a horse riding lesson, I wear jodpher, long sleeve top and a 1 pieace hijab. Its the only time in my whole week were I will wear "fited" clothes. It doesnt really bother me when Im at the yard but as soon as I walk off the yard, without a horse/pony in hand or under me, I put a long coat or skirt on to cover my modesty.
Wearing hijab constantly for 3 years now, I would feel naked if I went out without my head covered, and everything covered, excepted my face, hands and feet.
I was tested at Christmas last year with my family (they arent Muslim) with 2 of my presents, a t-shirt and some new jods, I refused to try them on, unless I had a long sleeve top on, so I dashed home to get 1 and put everything on. My family were admiring my figger but I got a little embarrassed as my uncal, cousins and 1 of my sisters partners were there so with in 10 mins, I put my skirt back on and it stayed on. In my own home, with my brothes and just women round, it would have been different. Alhumdillah my mum understood what was going on in my brain and my un-ease in the situation.
I have loads of abayas and hijabs now and I just love wearing them. With the scarf, I love playing round with the styles of it and seeing what looks nice and what I do quickly. Wearing the hijab in the summer, doesnt bother me at all. I do get loads of comments from people like "I bet she's hot in that". I try not let them bother me. I try not let the heat bother me either. If I did let it bother me, it would make things worst and I wouldnt go out. In the summer, as soon as I get thought my door, everything comes off, cold water on my head to cool me down and doing things round my home in shorts and t-shirt. Total bliss. I only cover up again for prayer and to answer the door. I have this big over the head prayer thing that I put on and everything is covered again.

Assalamualaikum
If yes please tell about your first experience.

walaikum assalam..

yes i wear abaya, hijab and niqaab alhamdulillah.

wore hijab in third grade, abaya in 7th grade and niqaab in 9th..

Alhamdulillah it was my parents tarbiyah, my school and my teachers that inspired me to do so.

When i first took hijab i was too young to ponder upon its importance, i just knew i had to take it but it never worried me and always felt contented with it.

Although i knew i had to take abaya when i will be 'grown up' or in uni, i decided to take it when i was still in school because many of my classmates used to take it and it seemed awesome and too protective. i remember how my teachers appreciated my decision when i first wore it at school and it gave me more confidence.

After a year or so i wanted to experience how the world looks like in niqaab. my family thought i was too young but my father was happy and bought niqaab for me and my sister. since then alhamdulillah niqaab is part of me when i m out.

these are part of My Invisibility Cloak!:D
specially at bus stop.. starring eyes..or while driving as if they haven't seen women in a car ever.. come on its 21st century..odd world.. odd people..

or does it really looks odd riding horse in abaya and niqaab.. :X

hijab is not an obstruction but my crown and pride..

I just wanted to share my opinion if it's okay....I think we should leave these sisters alone and not bother them about it.....I think that most muslim girls or women plan on wearing the hijab but when they're ready for it. If it doesn't hurt I'd also like to share a story about one of my colleagues at uni, she didn't used to wear the hijab last year and some girls used to gossip about her and stuff, my friend used to tell them that it's not right and this is something that only God can judge, some of the listened and others gave her the cold shoulder because they thought too low of her --this is just wrong and truly plain arrogance-- but guess what for their surprise our very same colleague here did not only wear the hijab this year she also started wearing the niqab too. They didn't see that coming but it teaches us to hold our tongues lest the very same people we despise because of their 'sins' God may bestow mercy and guidance on them, and we mightlater regret the wrong we did to them.

I wear niqab,I tried to wear burqa on that I went to market I couldn't see anything properly,so I stick to Niqab.:statisfie

:sl:

Pardon my asking, but what's the difference, aren't they the same thing?.
I think what sister Pure Purple meant is Afghan/Pakistan burqa like this

Burqa_1428680c-1.jpg

yeah sort of.

There r diff kinds of abaya's, the poncho, the normal coat, the wrap etc.

everyone has there own style.

what makes me mad are those abaya boutiques.

Abaya's are for covering up not looking good n showing off. Nowadays abaya's are better than clothes srsly ppl hav forgotten the purpose.

But how about niqab that worn Pakistani women from other ethnic? similar as Arab abaya?

here in Pakistan we call niqaab the piece use to cover the face.. it is usually a separate piece not like the one in afghan burqa

while abaya or burqa, a stitched cloth to cover the body

and scarf /hijab or dupatta piece of cloth to cover head..

In arab abaya both of above are one piece.. (with an inner head covering and niqaab)
