I haven't read all the posts in this thread, i must admit, but was compelled to reply to the title of the topic.

Well, i have a couple of close friends who are Bengali, but i only seem to know one complete sentence. (please excuse my attrocious spelling- i don't do much transliteration!)

'Amar tumar bala bashee... nai' - meaning: i love you... not!

I really do hope i got that right.. if not.. i just succeeded in embarrassing myself once again!
