Faqih Abu Layth As Samarqandi (rahimahullah) has cited this statement in his famous book, Tambihul Ghafilin.

Whomsoever sits and spends time in the company of eight types of people, Allah Ta’ala will increase him in certain qualities:

Whoever spends time in the company of the wealthy, Allah Ta’ala will increase his love and inclination for this world.

Whoever sits with the poor, Allah Ta’ala will increase his gratitude and his happiness with the decree of Allah.

Whoever spends time with the king [people of authority], Allah Ta’ala will increase his pride and the hardness of his heart.

Whoever spends time in the company of women, Allah Ta’ala will increase his ignorance and desires.

Whoever sits with children, Allah Ta’ala will increase in him the qualities of amusement and joking.

Whoever spends time in the company of [open] sinners, Allah Ta’ala will increase his audacity to carry out and perpetrate sins and will allow him to procrastinate repenting.

Whoever sits with the pious and righteous, Allah Ta’ala will increase his desire to do good deeds.

Whoever sits in the company of the Scholars, Allah Ta’ala will increase his knowledge and piety.

Salam. It says "Whoever spends time in the company of women, Allah Ta’ala will increase his ignorance and desires." So you accept that women are ignorant and desirefull beings?
 
Ibn Hazm stated: “Anyone who cares about your friendship is willing to criticize you, while those who make light of your faults show they do not care.”

Its a strange post.

I dont really agree with it.

Imo, you cant shun any point it mentions..

But rather should be willing to achieve a competency with regards to money, charity, authority, women, children, piety, sin.

Because that is the way the world works.. and a middle path needs to be saught.

Not literally a middle path.

knowledge takes many forms.. as does character.

And we are not all the same.

But its a different age, today the secure man is the one that reads someone else's book.. or remains blissfully unaware of his own.

The above mentioned points are responsibility... "/ a test if you will..

Much easier to not bear any.

Imo, not many people would be willing to admit ignorance..

And so the harsh word serves its purpose.

Can't take anything at face value.

Personally I can't figure out a purpose for the whole place.. honestly.

How do you define success? Or more importantly, would we be able to agree on a definition of islamic success?

As muhammed ali said, you have to help yourself before you can help others.. loosely paraphrased.

Otherwise your just going to be sitting with them.

False desires are a huge part of the world.


...recently been saying, its not what you do that counts.. but rather who you do it for..

At least that should be the excuse for the state of the world.

Resistance..is..futile.

The best you can do is hope for..

Whatever it is you hope for.


..and try not to sit anywhere long enough to complicate things..

Although thats not how the world works.

And in all honesty it feels like it would just dissapoint those fixated on its flaws..

Its not what most people think it is.

وعن عمران بن حصين رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إن أخوف ما أخاف عليكم بعدي كل منافق عليم اللسان رواه الطبراني في الكبير والبزار ورواته محتج بهم في الصحيح ورواه أحمد من حديث عمر بن الخطاب )الترغيب والترهيب 1/175(

Hazrat Imraan bin Husayn (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Indeed that which I fear the most over you after my demise is every hypocrite who is knowledgeable in speech (and thus deceives the people with his speech, yet he is void of the true knowledge of Deen).”

Hadhrat Abu Umaamah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Hadhrat Luqmaan (Alayhis Salaam) once advised his son saying: “O my beloved son, ensure that you always remain in the company of the Ulama and listen attentively to the speech of the wise, for certainly Allah Ta’ala enlivens the dead heart with the light of wisdom, just as he gives life to the dead earth with a downpour of rain.”

Yeah my first post was a total mess, but here's what was said about men anyway..

O wives of the Prophet, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear Allah, then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speach.

‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) did not mean that at all when she heard this hadeeth and said: “Are you likening us to donkeys and dogs?”! Narrated by al-Bukhaari (514).

Rather the similarity between them that is referred to here is their simply having a specific action in common that has to do with the prayer, which is distracting the worshipper from his humble focus and connection with Allah, may He be glorified and exalted. ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) did not agree that the passage of a woman (in front of one who is praying) disrupts the humble focus of the worshippers towards Allah, may He be glorified, but many of the Sahaabah disagreed with her on that.

Hawwa means fleeting airy desire.
Flowers and jewellery and makeup and melting to flattery seem to come before long term goals.

It is not meant as an insult - but a fact since the beginning , she was meant to be guarded from Iblees - but Adam's resolve was weak and he allowed her to roam around in the wild and fall to seduction.....and he suffered the consequences thereof.
Women follow role models and trends, with loyalty going to those who lend the most support, that's why iblees convinced her and she was seduced, and Adam who had a weak spot for her was seduced, the secularist governments seem to be winking and egging them on these days.

God's cheating you of your rightful eternal kingdom, seduce the man who loves you into forgetting the bigger issues with the fruit of this tree and you'll live happily ever after.......said the deceitful liar. They end up coming back to their senses quick.

Every single part of that hadith made sense.
Children who hang with women generally learn to gossip and lie and get in trouble due to rebellion and get quick rich schemes when they get older too.
When boys grow with an alpha male - they are careful of backbiting and having to lose face by lying to save face - since their livelihood and respect in society depend heavily on credibility.

don't take azc's posts too seriously, they are nothing more then rambling of unknown men in unknown books. Nothing to do with hadith or quran.

It is narrated in the books of hadeeth that the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum) explained to Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) that when they sat in his company it is as though Jannat and Jahannum were before them. However, when they left his company and went to their families, the same feeling no longer remained with them. Consequently, some even considered themselves to be hypocrites as only a hypocrite’s condition could be described in this manner.

Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) informed them that had they perpetually experienced that same spiritual condition, the angels would come and shake their hands on the streets. This is an experience that is rarely felt and is not a lasting condition.
The environment of this material world continuously affects human beings, thus causing us to experience a constant change in our spiritual condition. Therefore, there is a dire need for us to sit in the company of a Shaikh-e-Kaamil (expert spiritual guide).
Com​e to My door

The month of Ramadhaan especially, comes with the specialty of saving us from being exposed to harmful environments. It is as if Allah Ta'ala is calling out and saying: “O My servant! Why are you wasting your time in farming? Come to My door. O My servant! Why are you sitting in your businesses and consuming interest? Come to My house, My Musjid. O My servant! For how long will you continue making shoes and sewing clothes? Leave all that and come to My door.”

Allah Ta'ala has called us here to distribute gifts to us. He has called us here to forgive our sins and reform the condition of our hearts. Instead of engaging in swearing, backbiting, etc., acts that we do in our shops and factories, we have the opportunity now to recite the Qur'aan, take the name of Allah Ta'ala, read tasbeeh, durood shareef, istighfaar, engage in nafl ibaadat, etc.

What a great honour it is that Allah Ta'ala has chosen us as His guests and gathered us here. He has locked up Shaitaan – that very Shaitaan who has troubled us throughout the year and educated us on how to perpetrate various sins. We have been saved from him. Everyone cannot easily comprehend the evil and mischief spread by Shaitaan. In fact, it is quite difficult to understand him. Shaitaan is afraid of the pious and he runs away from them.

I wonder if that's the result of people obeying Satan instead of God.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.–Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government….Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity.
