Did Imam Bukhari used to see Prophet while narrating hadiths to the Prophet?

Assalam Alaikum.

It is often said and today at the biggest Muslim Cemetery in Mumbai, India the imam said during the Jumah khutbah (in order to prove that Prophet SAWS is alive in his grave) that Imam Bukhari used to narrate ALL the Hadiths to the Prophet in his blessed grave and if the Prophet's SAWS face turned happy, then Imam Bukhari accepted the hadith as authentic and if the Prophet SAWS had an unhappy face, then Imam Bukhari rejected that hadith.

I have a pretty good feeling that it is NOT so, however, I might be wrong on this, as this is very often said (atleast by Barelvis) to be so. If this is not true, then why is it so commonly said? Often, things are said by some of their famous sufi saints (usually in their books some centuries later) and they accept it. So was this said by some sufi and came to be spread, or did Imam Bukhari really authenticate hadiths as such?

I'm sorry if I might have been mis-understood. I'd rather remove that part to avoid any further confusion. I've often heard (exclusively from Barelvis) that the Imam Bukhari used to know the authenticity of hadiths using the aforementioned method. That is, he would see the face of the Prophet SAWS. I couldn't find any such way in any written document and even the internet searches came empty. But often such stories can be tracked to Sufis in their works and I wanted to know how this (dare I call it a myth?) came into existence? Since I hear it so often and almost all over my country India.

Is there any book where Imam Bukhari himself said anything about how he decides on the authenticity of hadiths? Quite possibly it might NOT have the "I see the Prophet SAWS" to do it part, but even without it would suffice as I want to know from any literature (preferably by Imam Bukhari HIMSELF) on how he decided on hadiths.

I think you should ask them on what basis they say all this.

Unfortunately, there are so many false statements such as this which have got into people's knowledge and understand of the deen. That is not true and if you asked them where they had learnt that from they'd be hard-pressed to give you any reliable sources.

It is so important to not just following and listen to anything a shaykh or teacher or elder tells you - when it comes to the deen it is a matter concerning our entire afterlife subhanAllah, we can never be too careful in ensuring what we learn is from within Islam and not some outside cultural influence. Anything about Islam should be confirmed and authenticated by the Qur'an, the Sunnah, the ahadith, or the consensus and rulings of well-known scholars.

This actually applies to *any* form of knowledge - sources and references are so important.

I don't know how Imam al-Bukhari authenticated his hadiths, but I definitely recommending reading about the 'science of hadith' - every scholar of hadith would use an extremely detailed and rational approach based on the chain or narration as well as the actual text when categorising them into authentic, weak or fabricated. They put their whole life into this pursuit and it really does work as a 'science'.

According to Imam Bukhari himself, when he wrote "al-Tarikh al-Kabir”, he wrote it while stayed near the grave of Rasulullah SAW. But if then there is story that Imam Bukhari met Rasulullah SAW, it's just a rumor that created by people who love to exaggerate a story.
