Ok, doesn't have to that "proper" English...

But really, people who have English as their first language, should not type txt or slang in posts or emails.

Especially sisters. When they speak or write like that, it seems like they hang out on the street too much. At college or in public who hear people talk like that, and for some reason it seems worse when girls do it. Just so yuck, like they are slags or something.

If you don't speak well, it implies you don't read much. And if you are a literate person who does not read, then you are worse than someone who is illiterate!:hiding:

I remember one story of a brother going to see a sister for a potential marriage meeting. First thing she says is "a'ight bruv?" :rollseyes

Lady, Muslimah, Sister or even girl, but not "gyal"!
I agree with this - people should not be using that kind of terminology here. It is much better to use 'sister'. Jazakallahu Khayr for this reminder, even though there have been several others before!

Just For That? They Are Viewed As Slagz :O...Whoa...It Doesn't Mean They Hang In The Streets...It's Probably Just Language That's Common In Their Area...It's Language They Were Familiar With When They Were Socialised...They're Products Of Their Environment...

Are you in some black/desi gang?

And Speaking A Little Like That Don't Mean You're In A Gang...That's Just Silly (No Offence)...

Ha...What A Shame..Looks Like She's Not Getting Married...

Well Nothing Much Can Be Done About That...They Don't Read...Then They Simply Don't Read...And...As For Writing In Txt Language...That In A Way Is Good...Want To Know How? When Shortening Words...You Are Using Your Brain To Process Them Words...Not Saying You Should Alwayz Do That...But Some People See Txt People As Dumb Or Stupid...When They're Not Exactly Thick As Water...

Well Anywayz..Im Not Here To Argue..But It's Just Really Common These Days..But All I'm Saying Is People Who Talk Like That ARE NOT Dumb Or Whatever...

TC Everyoneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

I absolutely agree with you! That is important for all languages...
But why you make so often a difference between men and women although there isn´t one. This behaviour is a must for both! And not for women "more"! This opinion also exist in other aspects and rises problems, so that we always have to explain, that a lot of things are NOT only applied to women, but also to men!
There are also other things which are not so nice, but both, men and women do them, because they have to.

I have to agree, sorry but its really hard to read posts that have been written in txt or slang, maybe I'm just getting old! Its the same with people who post in upper case or start every single word with a capital letter, I find it difficult to read. I have to say though, that people who talk properly rather than *gangsta* speak *dis an dat* tend to be taken more seriously, sorry if that sounds a bit snobbish!

Peace CG

i think this thread should be closed as it is going to cause arguments therefore better of closing we need to think many people on this site are young it's not ONLY for some older people this site is for everyone, so let people chill i mean let them write in what ever they want i feel sowiee for them even though if it takes more time to read it doesn't hurt.
Ma'assalama

P.S no harsh taken my intention is NOT to hurt anyone inshallah :)

:sl:
I used to be like that, write 'proper' English and expect everybody else to do so as well. But now I feel that I have gone into 'decay'. Well, hey, if you can't beat 'em..join 'em!
LOL! Nah, on a serious note, even when I text, i don't use text speak, I spell out the whole word! :rollseyes .
One thing i can't get my head around is the excessive amount of vowels which seem to be deemed necessary for the emphasis of one word...THAT just leaves me completely lost! :uuh:
:w:

:sl:

It is a lot better to use 'sister' instead of 'gyal' because the former is focusing on an Islamic concept and respect, whereas the latter is simply copying street language which has little if any regard for respect, values and least of all Islamic ones.
