Discussion/Questions on Sikhism

That's not my question, try reading over it again. :) thanks

What happens in culture and what religious doctrine states are TWO differnt things. I have no idea waht you're after, unless you're trying to imply (as you have done) that Sikhism allows polagmy and child brides. Nowhere in Sikh history has this taken place. and the Sikh Code Of Conduct won't be altered just so you can say ''well you do it too'' I'm sorry if I sound harsh brother. :thumbs_up

But it doesn't seem like it, because:

Giani Iqbal Singh, however, claimed that he had married a Jammu resident with the consent of his first wife and in-laws, which was endorsed by the sangat [Sikh community] from Patna Sahib. He claimed that his first wife had left the house without telling the family. Now she was living with her parents at Ganganagar (Rajasthan). 'Had they (first wife and in-laws) any objection, they would have moved the court.'

He never divorced the first wife but got consent off her, and he got married again.

You still havn't answered the other questions either. And you know it, that i wouldn't be acting this way if you guys never repeated the same thing over and over again either.

Salaam/peace,

Koi hai??:D

---u use other language than English that is hard to understand for many participants. Are u asking if there is any one who will marry 9 years old girl now ? Today , man made law prohibits it though less than 70/80 years , it was very common in India , Pakistan to arragne marriage of 6/7/8 years old girl.

Hindus believe if any girl starts her mens at her fathers res , her parents will go to hell. So , it was almost compulsory for any Hindu parent to arrange marriage for their daughter before puberty. Ask any Indian or Pak citizens how old were their grand mom's .

Now ,in the west , so - called minor girls are enjoying sex with unlimited partners. If u watch Oprah talk show or other programmes , u will see how school girls are enjoying unethcial relationships.

Man made law does not allow these girls to get married lawfully but these girls are not waiting for ur approved ' adult ' age .......LOL.

anyway , what's the minimum age for marriage for a Sikh woman ? How many times do i have to ask u a simple question ?

its one thing arranging the marriage of two people of that age, and a total different one when arranging one of someone of that age, and the other the age of your grandad..

Ultimate, since you're so knowledgable. Where does it prohibit it in your religion? How come you guys are running away from our questions right now? when before you were all running after us for answers?

Who is running?? The REHAT MARAYADA is taken from Dhan Guru Gobind Singh ji King of Kings, what more do you want???

^ The problem is that i've read through the rehat marayada, and it still hasn't answered my question. You guys havn't either.

If you want, i can paste them again, or you can refer back to my earlier posts.

That's wrong and he's done wrong as Vedanti states it's a VIOLATION of Sikh Rehat Maryada, Rehat Nama!

What other questions?

I can't be bothered arguing and repeating the same thing over and over again. And if it was so wrong, then i wonder why the sikh community approved of it:

Jathedar Vedanti refused to accept the plea of the Jathedar, Patna Sahib, that polygamy was prevalent in the past and acceptable in Sikhism. Giani Iqbal Singh had pleaded that Maharaja Ranjit Singh who is called 'Singh Sahib' had more than one wife. He also quoted revered Sikh religious personalities having more than one wife to justify his second marriage.

[...]

Giani Iqbal Singh, however, claimed that he had married a Jammu resident with the consent of his first wife and in-laws, which was endorsed by the sangat [Sikh community] from Patna Sahib. Dude it's a one off, if you're basing it all on that you've obviously run out on ideas. It's like me saying a muslim who rapes women is representative of all muslim and it's allowed in muslim doctrine....Or the KKK saying the Bible allows the killing of all non whites...

If he climed it he should have backed it up, as it's NON-Existent it's based on lies!

UK 18

India 18

Although in olden times they used to ''promise'' the girl or boy at birth to a certain family, and when he/she reached the age of 18 they would be betrothed. This is/was a practice carried by pakistanis hindus and sikhs, and is not reflective of religious rules and regulations....

I still don't understand because he said that revered sikhis in the past used to also practice polygamy and it was acceptable.

It also says that he got the permission off the woman and his inlaws.

Which leads to the question, when was the Rehat Maryada compiled? Which mean's either the persian author of rehat maryada is wrong, or the revered sikhis of the past.

The sister's asking according to sikhi law, not culture.

Hindus believe many weird and cretinous things, and saying they did this and thye do that does not make it any more feasible....

Waheguru!!

*deeps sigh*

So we should question the Rehat Maryada because of one cretin who made a claim? you find me what sources he used to back it up, as you're so keen on proving the Sikh Panth wrong....Good luck.....

BTW - YOU WON'T FIND A SINGLE THING!

You understand what others go through when people from other faiths try to hit cheap shots aswell? lol. I've said it before - this wouldn't be happening if you guys never played your games either.

Let's look at some of the revered gurus' who did have more than one wife at one time:

Akali Guru Hargobind Sahib

Akali Guru Har Rai,

Bhai Mani Singh

Akali Nihang

Guru Gobind Singh

Bhai Mani Singh

Maharaja Ranjit Singh

I know without a doubt that guru gobind singh is really important for sikhis. He had two wives at one time - Mata Sahib Kaur and Mata Sundri.

If you want i can do some more research. :)

First of all you need to educate yourself with the SIKH GURUS. Four of them are NOT Gurus. once you've done that we'll continue....

Thats the problem, even the sikhs have a difference of opinion on who is truely a 'saint' or not. And even if some weren't, the true sikhis among them performed polygamy.

You've just posted anti Sikh information....I'll give you an explanation on it all. Wheather you believe it or not, it's irrelevant a Sikh know his/her religion.

We're used to having our religion being distorted by hindus and muslims, so it's nothing new and it will be refuted Allah knows best!
:D

Ok avar, we're used to ours being distorted by non muslims too. It's part of life. By the way, you don't have to if you don't want to.

I'd rather talk about something much more important, namely the hereafter.

My main question is do sikhs believe that if a person dies, in what way will they become with God? :)
