Any one intrested to learn Malayalam

I tried saying ki haal haai to some of my friends and they where like
what?
 
malayalam?what language is that never heard of it,i speak pushto,urdu,hindko and german and forgotten the french.lol

it's a language they speak in Kerela, South India
 
It's part of the South Indian languages, including Tamil, Telegu, Kannada e.t.c. so that will explain it's linguistic closeness towards them. I am not Malayali myself, but I know a few friends who are.

I don't know much malayalam, but here are a couple of basic things I already know:

Greetings = Namaskarram

Prayer = Niskaram

Mosque/Church/Place of Worship = Pali

Here = Ivede

There = Avede

Where = Evede

Some phrases:

Pali evede
= Where is the moque?

Namal pali niskirchu
= We prayed at the mosque (I think)

Ningal'a peredentha?
= What is your name?
 
Vanakkam,

I would like to learn malayalam, many Indian immigrants in my country is Tamil. i just know some Tamil words such as Vanakkam, Amma, Ellek, Chellama, Vithu, Ullagamae Samayyam Valnuli Aaru...thats all...

I am a Malay but also speak Thai co-linear with Malay. Malay and Thai is easy for people who speak language with basic Sanskrit, Persian, and Arabic : )
 
Just sharing some Malayalam words I learned from Muslim Indian restaurants, I found that the worker speak Malayalam so I ask them few words.

Maanga: Mango
Jakka: Jackfruit
Naarienggia: Lemon
Muderinggia: Grapes

Krishikkaran: Farmer
Kokkur: Crane
Gaagak: Crow
Thaingur: Coconut Tree
Koorangun: Monkey
Kethidham: Building
Wotthagam: Camel
Chatthi: Vessel
Woonyal: Swing
Etthapalam: Banana
Katthi: Knife
Panni: Swine
Koonnur: Hill
Poocha: Cat
Yeecha: Fly
Phatcha: Green
Maanya: Yellow
 
Here are Tamil words, I just put them together with Malayalam because I guess they are still in the same group of language although different,

Atchan: father (Tamil: Appa)
Akka: sister
Anne: brother
Thambi: younger brother
Thangatchi: younger sister
Pillai: son

All of them are Tamil, only Atchan and Amma is Malayalam, dunno what are those words in Malayalam :p
