Does any religion even forbid this? As far as I know, it is simply taboo in most places in the West, not based in Christianity.

oh well if the Mosque style doesnt fit in with the skyline then we can easily adapt and build mosques without minarets and make them perfectly suitable for the german skyline since it isnt compulsary to make the minarets.....so what now? would you mind that infidels?

i think that this got lost in all the warfare.
i think it would be interesting if the muslims offered to comply with the skyline/architecture of the city and see what kind of response they would get.
this would show if those are really the issues.
