I need your comments about the grammatical(tense) status of this aya:

لَّن يَسْتَنكِفَ الْمَسِيحُ أَن يَكُونَ عَبْداً لِّلّهِ وَلاَ الْمَلآئِكَةُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ وَمَن يَسْتَنكِفْ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِ وَيَسْتَكْبِرْ فَسَيَحْشُرُهُمْ إِلَيهِ جَمِيعًا﴿4:172﴾

I need your comments about the grammatical(tense) status of this aya:

يَسْتَنكِفَ (yestankef) which mean disdain, avoid

is a verb in present form,is preceded by لَّن (lan) which negates the occurrence of the verb in the future

in other words ,the occurrence of (lan) before يَسْتَنكِفَ which has the present form,negates its occurrence in the future..

I agree with you.Why do some of "mufassirs" have translated in the past tense.e.g.
From Tafheemul Quran by Maudoodi.

(4:172) The Messiah neither did disdain to be a servant of Allah nor do the angels who are stationed near to Him; and whoever disdains to serve Him, and waxes arrogant, Allah will certainly muster them all to Him

.
Would you please throw some light on this disparity?
Is this aya not telling us about the "Future action" of "Hazrat Eesa PBUH" ?

after affirming the statue of Jesus during his ministry(being a servant and prophet)
19:30 He(Jesus) said: "I am indeed a servant of Allah. He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet;

the Quran affirms that he will not disdain to be a slave to Allah in the future too......


Yusuf Ali Christ disdaineth nor to serve and worship Allah, nor do the angels, those nearest (to Allah): those who disdain His worship and are arrogant,-He will gather them all together unto Himself to (answer).


Pickthal The Messiah will never scorn to be a slave unto Allah, nor will the favoured angels. Whoso scorneth His service and is proud, all such will He assemble unto Him;

Arberry The Messiah will not disdain to be a servant of God, neither the angels who are near stationed to Him. Whosoever disdains to serve Him, and waxes proud, He will assuredly muster them to Him, all of them.

Even some of these have translated in the present tense.
So this Aya points to "life" of Hazrat Eesa and his "recoming" back.Is this not so?

The literal translation would be in the future ,without doubt.....


this aya points to the future whether Hazrat Eesa "future recoming"

(IF the second coming could be established as a Koranic fact) or the day of judgment and so on.....
