I just wanted to address an issue that concerns all Muslims. America is saturated with pornographic material, which is a shame, and numerous Quranic and Hadeeth references condemn the making and distribition of pornographic material, but what is even more disturbing is that in many Islamic countries pornography is not only available, but is even being made in those countries; for example, in Bangladesh, Egypt, Turkey, and a host of other Islamic countries one will find homegrown pornography.

This is shameful. And the worst part of it, it is not only non-Muslims who are starring in these pornographic movies and magazine, even many girls of Muslim background are starring in this filth also. Islam preaches sexual purity, it does allow immorality to reign in society.

It is high time that Muslims take a tough stand against both pornography in the West and in the Islamic world. Some Muslims have done just that, and have written numerous articles and fatwas against the distribution, production, and use of pornographic material. Unfortunately, many of our younger brothers and sisters are becoming addicted to this garbage, and its forever destroying their minds in regards to what is healthy sexuality.

i think this is really a global thing and not just america, but i agree with you.. it is garbage.. and it is unfortunate that it is easily available.

The influx of Porn into the USA did come primarily from outside sources. It is fairly new, at least within my life time. Nearly everything I see today has come about since I was a child.

I can recall as a kid the movies "Gone with the Wind" was considered obscene because Clark Gable used the word "D.a.m.n." in it. Many people refused to see it because of that. the movie theater in my home town was boycotted because it chose to show it.

When I was a teenager, little books, referred to as "8 page bibles" began circulating. They were illegal and were brought into the USA by GIs returning home after WWII Although they were graphic, they did not portray actual pictures, they were basicaly poorly drawn sketches.

Playboy magazine first appeared in 1958 I believe. It was the first magazine to show an actual photograph of a partialy nude female (Marilyn Monroe) the photograph was very mild and did not really show much of anything. The fantasy was more in the imagination of the viewer.

But, until this time the majority of, if not all porn, was illegal and illegaly brought into the country.

After that it progressed rapidly until it reached the point it is today.

My conclusion is that while America has gained the reputation of being a nation of porn, it did not originate here and Americas are as much a victim of it as an Eastern Nation is.

The culprit is not America, it is the porn industry which now has roots in every nation.

The porn is a problem itself but another problem-which I think a bigger one-is the rising of eroticy in the media of the secular countries, as in my country Turkey. You just need to turn off the TV and not to buy any newspaper or magazine not to see a half naked woman.

Turkey is afterall a European country...
European cinema (as well as media in general, I guess) is very liberal in terms of nudity and sex.
In fact, the official Youtube channel of the European commission (highest ranking governing body of the EU) - EUtube - posted a video containing clips of sex from a couple of european films as a way of promoting European cinema.

I guess it originated in western Europe and Scandinavia. It was there where it first become legal.

As far as porn itself having a point of origin, at one time or another it has appeared in every Nation. In the past it had no profit value and only involved a small number of people. But, what has happened now is it was found to have commercial value. I would say that the concept of making porn into an industry developed in those countries. But, the porn industry has no central location. It is more like a giant fungus spread out all over with just the efflorescence of the fungi being visible in the location of major profit. The roots and nourishers of it are no further than the town or city you live in, no matter where that is. Even if there is no visible sign of porn where you live, you can be certain there is somebody there making a profit from it and helping propagate it.

India now is becoming a major producer of porno movies.

It is a very profitable business and very important. For example, when it was the "battle" between the VHS and BETA tape model, the American porno industry choose to use VHS and it helped the end of the BETA tape.

Most probably pornograpy existed already in medieval times and in ancient time. Most probably cavemen did write some obscene writings on their caves thousands years ago. Because pornography was born with human and his desires and lusts. And wherever man is, there is also pornography. And just like 500 years ago and 1000 years ago, religious people try to fight with this immoral thing.

so true. The ancients civilizations like the Romans, Egyptians, Persians, all have very "kinds of porno". They were actually much more "free" that today. Also, the "belly dancers" are connected with the Arabs, Islamic culture, and that is a type of "sexual stimulation".

I know, I was refering to the porn industry, as Woodrow already noticed.

A few months back I've managed to find Bible in manga comic form in a bookstore where I usually frequents. Oh, you were talking about porn...

Arab culture, not islamic culture.^o)

Nope... it's Indian culture introduced to the Arabs by the Romans, Greeks, Persians, Levants and Copts... Arabs only have dabkeh.

I didn´t know that. Anyway, what I was trying to demonstrate was that even the "most conservative Islamic society" had some type of "sexual stimulation".
