headache is a symptom, which could spell as many disorder. painkiller is for emergency only, since it has a masking effect which will make the headache diagnostic goes tricky.
1. if you feel partial unilateral headache with no specific time of onset, it is a migrain or in medical term, a episodic vascular spasm.
2. if you feel terrible dull pain behind your neck, most probably it's your high blood pressure.
3. if you feel dull pain in the evening, go to ophtalmologist to check whether you need pair of glasses.
4. if you feel a headache with spasm behind your neck, it could be a third molar impaction muscle stiffness.
5. if you feel a throbbing headache (paralyzing sometimes), with sudden onset, and getting worse after a long night sleep, it could be a brain tumor.
it's all i can remember. i need to read more to explain, hahaha...

ah...sorry. i just remembered that the headache when you are prostrating (just like your face being grasp by giant hand), it could by a sinus problem (long term iritation on your nasal tract, or sinusoid cavity).

if you wake with a headache, it is most likely a sinus headache.
i used to get cluster headaches - sinus must be implicated in these.
the very best thing i have found is to boil a pot of water, throw in some chamomile, put a towel over your head and breath the steam (thru your nose) as deep as you can - start out easy, then increase the depth of your breathing.
