Hello brothers and sisters ,
I have joined this forum hoping to gain more knowledge and understanding of my religion.
My name is Omar , I live in Scotland in the U.K , my whole life I have considered myself to be a muslim although my actions may have been in contradiction to this. As a child I was taught to recite verses from the Quran however I did not understand the meaning of what I was reading (only to recognise the letters).
I am now at a point where I feel a duty to understand the messages and become a better muslim - I have began to read the Quran in English but there are a few options...... which one is considered to be the most accurate? Also -I have downloaded an app on my phone but how should my phone be treated now there is a copy of quran on it .
Sorry if these seem like very silly questions . May Allah bless you all .Thankyou. Omar
Re: Aslam - o - alikum , new member with lots of questions.....?

I read the Qur'aan in Arabic, even though I don't understand what I'm reading, which is absolutely fine by me! My brother who is a Hafiz translates parts of it for me, he's still learning too.

I don't own a smartphone, thus me not downloading any apps, hence I'm unsure what you should do ... I'm no help I'm afraid, Insha'Allaah the other members will help you out. Hang in there, help will be on its way

Re: Aslam - o - alikum , new member with lots of questions.....?
Thankyou all for such quick and warm responses... I hope that I dont offend anyone but one of the main objections I have to the way Islam is taught in U.K is that there is no understanding of the meaning - only a recognition of the arabic alphabet . I understand that the only TRUE quran is in arabic but surely understanding is more important?
In the first four chapters that I have read in the English version I have learned many new things about an Islamic outlook and attitude that I would have missed by reading it in Arabic....

I am not sure if I understand correctly, but if you want to learn the meaning of the Quran, then it is best to start with the language you are most comfortable with so that you get the basic idea. When you feel like you are ready to move on, you should start understanding how arabic is written and what the words mean so that you can start to have the direct connection with what you are reading in Quran.
