Explanation of A Summary of al-‘Aqeedatul-Hamawiyyah of Ibn Taymiyyah



By Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al-'Uthaymeen. Allah upholds His religion with His close helpers upon whom He bestows Eemaan, knowledge, and wisdom by which they prevent these enemies. They repel their plot back against their own throats. So no one ever comes out with his innovation except that Allaah – and for this deserves praise and thanks – destines to send someone from Ahlus-Sunnah who refutes and disproves his innovation and extinguishes it. He has many works on the clarification and explanation of the Sunnah, the reinforcement of its pillars, and the destruction of innovations. One of the works on this subject is his “al-Fatwaa al-Hamawiyyah” which he wrote as an answer to a question presented to him in the Hijrah year of 698 from Hamaah, a place in ash-Shaam. In it, he was asked what the scholars and Imaams of the religion say concerning the Aayaat and the Ahaadeeth of the Sifaat, or the attributes and characteristics of Allaah. So he answered in about 83 pages and due to which, he suffered trials and afflictions. May Allaah reward him on behalf of Islaam and the Muslims with the best of rewards. Due to the difficulty in understanding and comprehending this answer from many readers, I wanted to summarize the most important points from it along with some other needed additions. I have named it “Fathu Rabb-il-Bariyyah bi-Talkhees al-Hamawiyyah.”

“...When I learned of the death of the scholar and educator of this Ummah - the Imam, the mujtahid, the defender of the pure Shari’ah and Prophetic Sunnah, Shaykh al-Islam Taqi ad-Din Abi al-‘Abbas Ahmad bin ‘Abd al-Halim bin ‘Abd as-Salam bin Taymiyyah (may Allah sanctify his soul and brighten his grave) - some of the scholars and those who loved good for the Muslims said to me: “You saw and befriended the Shaykh, and you came to know him and his characteristics. If only you could write a few words regarding what you saw in order to benefit whoever of this Ummah comes across them, since mercy descends when we remember the righteous people.”

So, I responded: “I only accompanied him for a few days, and I only know few of this many virtues.” However, I saw that they intended good and that what they were requesting of me was a right and obligation upon me, as the scholar should be keen to spread and distribute what he thinks will be of value to the Muslims. So, I produced a small effort describing his virtues which will give the intelligent reader an idea of the honor and excellence of this man. The groups who were guided are the inhabitants of Paradise and the groups who were misguided are the denizens of the Fire. The inhabitants of Paradise are the Awliyaa of the Most Merciful and the denizens of the Fire are the Awliyaa of Shaytaan.

Knowledge Mandates Action

Iqtidaa-ul-‘Ilm al-‘Amal By Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee. This is the second book in the "Classical Knowledge Series", which is a collection of selected scholarly works from the past that deal with the subject of religious knowledge. The first book in this blessed series was “The Book of Knowledge” written by Imaam Abu Khaithamah Zuhayr bin Harb An-Nasaa’ee (Died 234H), may Allaah have mercy on him.

The Forbidden, Issues Of Great Importance That We Underestimate. Al-Muharramat (the forbidden) are the limits of Allaah (the Mighty and Magnificent). "These are the limits of Allaah, so do not approach them". . Allaah has threatened whoever transgresses His limits and violates His sacraments stating (Glorified be He): "And whoever disobeys Allaah and His messenger and transgresses His limits - He will put him into the fire to abide eternally therein, and he will have a humilating punishment." It is obligatory to avoid al-muharramaat in view of the saying of the prophet: "And whatever I forbade you, then avoid it and whatever I enjoined upon you, then fulfill as much of it as you able."
