Ibraheem ibn Adham, may Allah have mercy upon him, was a third century scholar, a teacher and companion of Sufyaan ath-Thawree, and he was asked about the saying of Allah swt –
“And your Lord says: ‘Call on me, I will answer your prayer…’ ”
[Surah Ghaafir 40:60]
“We supplicate and we are not answered.” So he said to them:
“You know Allah, Yet you do not obey Him,
You recite the Qur’aan, Yet you do not act according to it,
You know Shaytaan, Yet you have agreed with him,
You proclaim that you love the Messenger of Allah, Yet you abandon His Sunnah,
You proclaim your love for paradise, Yet do not act to gain it,
You proclaim your fear for the fire, Yet you do not prevent yourselves from sins,
You say: “Indeed death is true”, Yet you have not prepared for it,
You busy yourselves with finding faults with others, Yet you do not look at your own faults,
You eat that which Allah has provided for you, Yet you do not thank him,
You bury your dead, Yet you do not take a lesson from it."
Taken from Khushoo fis-Salaat (p.62) of Ibn Rajab al Hanbalee – rahimullah.
Great post sister. I hope that will remind me when I need it to.
So Glorified is He and Exalted above all that they associate with Him, and in Whose Hands is the dominion of all things, and to Him you shall be returned.

Why our prayer may not be answered By Ibn Rajab al-Hanbalee
Why our prayer may not be answered By Ibn Rajab al-Hanbalee
Ibn Rajab al-Hanbalee - may Allah have mercy on him - was asked about the saying of Allah - the Most High by some people who said they supplicated but were not answered:
"AND YOUR LORD SAYS: CALL ON ME I WILL ANSWER YOUR PRAYER..." [Surah Ghaafir (40): 60]
Ibn Rajab gave them the following reasons why Allah may reject the prayers of a supplicant:
•"You know Allah, yet you do not obey Him,
•You recite the Quran, yet do not act according to it,
•You know Shaitaan, yet you have agreed with him,
•You proclaim that you love the Messenger of Allah, yet you abandon his Sunnah,
•You proclaim your love for Paradise, yet you do not act to gain it,
• You proclaim your fear for the Fire, yet you do not prevent yourselves from sins,
•You say "Indeed death is true", yet you have not prepared for it,
•You engage yourselves with finding faults with others, yet you do not look at your faults,
•You eat of that which Allah has provided for you, yet you do not thank Him,
•You bury your dead, yet you do not take a lesson from it

You know Shaytaan, yet you have befriended him
You say you love the Messenger (SAW), yet you abandon his Sunnah
You say you love Jannah, yet you do not strive for it
You proclaim your fear of the fire, yet you do not abstain from sins
You say: "indeed death is true" yet you have not prepared for itYou occupy yourselves with the faults of others, yet you do not look at your own faults
You eat of Allah's provisions, yet you do not than him
You bury your dead, yet you do not take a lesson from it!
I enjoyed your post. However, I think that all prayers are answered. God sometimes says NO!!!!! He may not think that we are worthy of what we ask for, or flat out doesn't want us to have it.
