    Red face Intro to Sarawakian language (Malaysia) (OP)

    as salamu aleiykum wtr,

    i'm open this new thread as it's suggested by sista syilla hihi...

    boleh buat bahasa sendiri untuk bahasa sarawak? (erm...sarawak kan?)
    (you can create thread for your language)
    ^^^buatla...kamik pande kelakaq sikit aja...

    for beginners
    (untuk permulaan)

    (don't be shy)
    jangan segan-segan

    I want to learn too
    (kita pun nak belajar juga)
    First, let me introduce my country; Sarawak سراواك
    Sarawak is one of the two Malaysian states on the island of Borneo. Known as Bumi Kenyalang ("Land of the Hornbills"), somehow quite known as Land of Head Hunters because of its ancient stories. Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia. The administrative capital is Kuching (Cats City), the place where I'm staying right now.

    Sarawak is home to 28 ethnic groups (i think it is more than that), each with their own distinct language, culture and lifestyle. The major ethnic of this land is Ibans, follow up by Chinese, Bidayuh, Melanau and Malays. Oh, btw my mom is Dayak Iban.

    Sarawakians practice a variety of religions, including Islam, Christians, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and animism. Many converts to Christians among the Dayak people. My mom's was animism before she converted to Islam and married my dad (which is pure muslim of Mindanao).
    *I'm less exposed to my dad cultures. I'm grew up among my Christians cousins. One of them has converted to Islam. Yet there, I'm thankful I'm born as a muslim.

    (source: wikipedia)

    Back to the topic, let start with the basic one.

    My name is Nina = Nama kamek Nina
    Pronunciation:
    Nama = "Na·ma"
    kamek = "come meg"
    Nina = Nina

    uewwwh.. it's sound weird huh?

    I want to learn too = Kamek pun mok belajar juak
    Pronunciation:
    Kamek = "come meg"
    pun = pond
    mok = mo-kh
    belajar = bell. la. jar
    juak = jew. kh

    mannn.. I can't stop giggling to made this entry
    I think this is funny. I don't expect you guys will interested to learn the language tho.

    You = kitak
    Pronunciation:
    kitak = ki. tag

    I wait for yer guys respond, then I'll proceed slowly, ok?

    Re: Intro to Sarawakian language (Malaysia)

    Syilla, kitak orang Sarawak kah?

    I went to Sarawak in 1994. Has been tortured for 2 weeks by my friends grandma. She continued speaking Sarawak without a single Malay word. So my friend's mum said "Auk ajalah". So whatever she said I will say "Auk nenek". Even when she asked "Kitak gi sine tadi tok?" I said "auk"

    Kitak - you
    gi - went
    sine - where
    tadi - just now
    tok - this

    Re: Intro to Sarawakian language (Malaysia)

    hehhe = "my type of loughing"
    ndang kitak orang tok lawak ada juak.. = "its truely you all are funny"
    ney orang sawak sitok? angkat tangan.... = "are there sarawakian here?, raise hand..."

    its difficult to translate word by word.. becos the grammar and fragmentation are unique..

    cheers

    Re: Intro to Sarawakian language (Malaysia)

    I used to use web name "Pabiyen Sitok". People keep asking the meaning

    Pabiyen means Baweanese. Bawean is one of the island in Indonesia near Java Island. My hubby's grandma was from Bawean Island

    and Sitok means here in Sarawak Language
