    breaking copyright

    Report bad ads?

    Assalamu alaikum

I was wondering about copyright, at the begining of each book theres a statement which states something like - nothing of the book can be reproduced, transmitted, photocopied in any form without the publishers permission this is from the top of my head. Now if we copy something onto the internet to share and gain knowlegde with out people, aren't we breaking the copyright rules, isn't it a bit like stealing something without the owners permission. Isn't that against Islam.

I would like to share knowledge from couple of books but because of this I don't copy it onto the net.

Can someone help me out here

I've noticed that too, and something that really surprises me is the fact that we're not even supposed to copyright it because it may be concealing knowledge.

"Whoever concealed knowledge, Allah will make him wear a bridle of fire on the Day of Resurrection." (Abu Dawud)

So why do some people still do it..

Because people are greedy and/or have kids to feed of course!

In English law you're legally allowed to (photo)copy I think about a chapter, but for anymore you need to contact the publisher. However, university students tend to see this 'law' more like a 'guideline'...
