Because we have failed to communicate so many aspects of islamic character ,guidelines and social dealings in to real world terminology and action
we have become guilty of masses of theory and literature, but with very little practice..like donkeys carrying books.
we have to learn to communicate islam in the mainstream and in terms of human issues
our islamic terminology has to be communicated with the broader audience in mind
Islam is not just for practice inside the mosques and in our homes
and also Islam is not just physical actions or clothing ,but an enlightened mindset
probably the most misunderstood discipline is tasawwuf..(sufism)
writers often uses the phrase.. sharpen the saw ,before approaching the tree
ie: the individual can only be effective if he himself is prepared and made capable , not just wanting to but be able to..
in tasawwuf we are taught that without the correct iman, knowledge, discipline and know how, efforts will remain dulled by blunt efforts
meditation and prayer are part of steven coveys formulae for sharpening the individual these are zikr and muraqabah are they not
as i read and researched many self help books over the years,by comparing them to usools of tabligh and tasawwuf i found many similarities..
plagiarism?
Re: TAZKIYYAH/TASSAWWUF AND TABLIGH REMARKETED TO A WIDER AUDIENCE
each of us must also know our station and remit in life and to work within that.
of course we all strive to be better and increase in all the positive human attributes on a daily basis
but we also have to check our nafs to see if our works /words and public life is to please allah taala or to become well known and influential .
if an acceptance from allah taala comes it will come without effort..known as "the opening"
if allah taala desires for you to remain secluded, all efforts will be in vain
some of this is also in futuh al ghaib and ikmalush shiyam must reads for those who have undergone great trials..and alhamdulillah a great source of comfort
Re: TAZKIYYAH/TASSAWWUF AND TABLIGH REMARKETED TO A WIDER AUDIENCE
the term "synergize" is used by covey
this is in essence mashwera ,consultation ,
i will expand on the 7 habits too, some of it is above already
in ketan j patels book..he states..
maintain discipline. ....a belief in fate.....this is already in islamic teachings
have compassion and love/think win/win ......also in islam
negate under and over reaction..dont provoke or humiliate .....islamic manners
dont try to control everything ....belief in taqdeer
learn constantly .....the quest for knowledge is never ending
it is obvious the best self help book is the holy quran
and the best example of it in practice is our dear beloved prophet muhammad
Re: TAZKIYYAH/TASSAWWUF AND TABLIGH REMARKETED TO A WIDER AUDIENCE
the efforts of self reformation is tazkiyyah or tasawwuf
tabligh is mainly targeted to fellow muslims..prapogation
in t.j we admit that the muslims have to improve in all fields and aspects
in tasawwuf the focus is on constant self improvement
if youre personal refinement is excellent
youre dawah either physically or verbally will be too
thus the equation
so personal improvement should take priority
later i will try to explain further for a non muslim audience inshallah.
Re: TAZKIYYAH/TASSAWWUF AND TABLIGH REMARKETED TO A WIDER AUDIENCE
Although tasawwuf entails a complex system of thought, however, a great reformer embraces people of all backgrounds and simplifies even the most complex religious and spiritual themes for them, so that the greatest number of people may benefit.
The Messenger of Allah says, “Give glad tidings [to the people] and do not frighten them away, and create ease and do not create difficulty.”
Thanawi teaches tasawwuf in a pragmatic, yet profound way, so it is easy for the layman to practice, yet deep enough for the seeker to quench his thirst. Tasawwuf is a practical methodology of reform that is associated with understanding the present human condition and then curing blameworthy character traits with divine guidance and prophetic advices, and augmenting praiseworthy character traits by establishing consistency and sincerity.
