Know YOUR Enemy! [Give us your advice insha'Allah]

    Know YOUR Enemy!

We all have an enemy as muslims, his main aim is to take us into the hellfire with him. He envies the children of Aadam because Aadam was the one he never prostrated to, and we are his (Aadam's) children.

Why didn't he prostrate? Because he said

"i'm better than him, You [Allah] created him out of clay and made me from fire."

This enemy is so powerful that Allaah doesn't tell us to attack him, or fight him - but all we can do against him is to seek refuge in Allaah.

Soooo much times Allaah has mentioned to us in the Qur'an:

O you who have believed, enter into Islam completely [and perfectly] and do not follow the footsteps of Satan.

Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

    [Qur'an 2: 208 - translation of the meaning]

And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dissension] among them.

Indeed Satan is ever, to mankind, a clear enemy.

    [Qur'an 17:53]

Surely, Shaitan (Satan) is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy.

He only invites his Hizb (followers) that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire.

    [Qur'an 35:6]

Post your tips here on what tricks you know of shaytaan, and how we can overcome them insha'Allaah.

Re: Know YOUR Enemy! [Give us your advice insha'Allah]

    Just some hadith on Shaytaan:

The Messenger of Allaah said: "Shaytaan is present with one of you in all of his affairs until he is present with him while he takes his food. When one of you drops a morsel let him pick it up, remove whatever remains on it and then eat it. Let him not leave it for the Shaytaan and when he he departs (from his food) let him lick his fingers as he does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies."

The Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "There is none amongst you except that there has been appointed to him a qareen (companion) from among the Jinn and a qareen from the Angels." They said: And you also? He said: "And me also except that Allaah has aided me against him and so he has submitted. He does not command me except with good."

He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) also said: "Indeed Shaytaan flows in the son of Aadam like the blood."

shaytaan cries whenever the son of Aadham postrates to Allah swt after reciting the prostration verses of the Quran such as the verse of surah Alaq:

    "kaalla laa tuti3hu wasjud waqtarib".

Allaah's Messenger (saw) said, "When you read a verse of prostration then
prostrate, Shaytaan departs crying and says: "Woe be to him. He was ordered
with prostration and he prostrated - so for him is Paradise. I was ordered
with prostration and I refused - so for me is the Fire." (Muslim, Ahmad and
    Ibn Maajah)

Re: Know YOUR Enemy! [Give us your advice insha'Allah]

A bit from Umar S. Al Ashqar Book - The world of the Jinn and Devils

Satan was cast out of paradise due to his pride but he took a
promise from Allah to be left alive until the day of judgment.

"He said: Reprieve me till the day when they are raised (from the dead).
He said: Lo! You are of those who are reprieved" (al-Araaf 14-l 5). Then
the accursed one made a promise and vow to himself that he would
mislead the offspring of Adam and plot against them.

"He said: Now, because you have sent me astray, verily I shall lurk in
ambush for them on your Right Path. Then I shall come upon them from
before them and from behind them and from their right and their
left, and you will not find most of them beholden (to You)" (al-Araaf
16). This latter statement of his shows how great will be his struggle
to mislead the offspring of Adam. He will take every path he can against
them, on their right, left, in front of them and behind them. He will
attack them from every direction. Al-Zamakhshari said in his
commentary to this verse, "He will come to them from all four directions
as the enemy usually does, such as his "sneaking whispers" to them. He
will entice them in every way that he can. As in the statement,
", And excite any of them whom you can with your voice, and urge your
horse and foot against them, and be a partner in their wealth and children, and promise them. Satan promises them only to deceive"
    (al-Israa 64)

shaytaan gets to me the worst when I offer salaat, for some reason as hard as I try to think of Allaah and his mercy, love and power I end up thinking something horrible about something that's around me when I'm praying or otherwise, i don't want to say it but it's just awful, any suggestions to overcome this atrocity?!

Re: Know YOUR Enemy! [Give us your advice insha'Allah]

One trick that shaytaan uses alot is to persuade you to commit a sin.

Shaytaan: Go on, do it.. Allaah's the Most Merciful and you can repent later.

Shaytaan keeps whispering to the person to do it, and if the person really desires to do that sin and they don't control themselves - they will fall into the sin.

    [so its a mixture of:

    DESIRE
    + WASWASA
    (whisperings of shaytaan)= SIN]

After you commit the sin, you might regret what you just did. You'll feel guilty about it.

You might even want to repent.

The Messenger of Allah (Sal Allahu alayhi waSalam) said:

"All the sons of Adam are sinners (wrongdoers)but the best of sinners are those who repent often."*

But now that you want to repent, shaytaan will turn the tables around totally. He'll start whispering to you and telling you that you're too bad, you're a sinner and Allaah will never accept your repentance.

He'll keep whispering to you and telling you that its not worth it.

If he's successful, the person will end up giving up hope and carry on doing other sins because shaytaans made them believe that their too bad to do good or to repent anyway.

But the continuation of the hadith above is:

The Messenger of Allah (Sal Allahu alayhi waSalam) said:

"All the sons of Adam are sinners (wrongdoers)
but the best of sinners are those who repent often."*

    Allah says in the Qur'an:

« "O My slaves who have transgressed agaisnt themselves! Despair not for the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." »

    [Qur'an, 39:53]

    Sahih Muslim

    Book 026, Number 5463:
Uthman b. Abu al-'As reported that he came to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: Allah's Messenger, the Satan intervenes between me and my prayer and my reciting of the Qur'an and he confounds me. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said:, That is (the doing of the Satan) who is known as Khinzab, and when you perceive its effect, seek refuge with Allah from it and spit three times to your left. I did that and Allah dispelled that from me.

That is helpful indeed, however, when I'm in salaat I have no desire but to worship Allah without hindrance.

Re: Know YOUR Enemy! [Give us your advice insha'Allah]

    As Salaamu Alaykum,

A few Verses taken from "Surat As-Saad" showing Us the shaytaans disobedience to Allah and the promise he made to mislead mankind.

70: "Only this has been inspired to me, that I am a plain warner."

71: (Remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "Truly, I am going to create man from clay".

72: So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him."

73:So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them:

74:Except Iblis (Satan) he was proud and was one of the disbelievers.

75: (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with Both My Hands. Are you too proud (to fall prostrate to Adam) or are you one of the high exalted?"

76:[Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am better than he, You created me from fire, and You created him from clay."

77: (Allah) said: "Then get out from here, for verily, you are outcast.

78: "And verily!, My Curse is on you till the Day of Recompense."

79: [Iblis (Satan)] said: "My Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are resurrected."

80: (Allah) said: "Verily! You are of those allowed respite

81:"Till the Day of the time appointed."

82: [Iblis (Satan)] said: "By Your Might, then I will surely mislead them all,

83: "Except Your chosen slaves amongst them (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism)."

84: (Allah) said: "The Truth is, and the Truth I say,

85: That I will fill Hell with you [Iblis (Satan)] and those of them (mankind) that follow you, together."

86: Say (O Muhammad SAW): "No wage do I ask of you for this (the Quran), nor am I one of the Mutakallifun (those who pretend and fabricate things which do not exist).

87: "It (this Quran) is only a Reminder for all the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns).

88: "And you shall certainly know the truth of it after a while.

10 Ways of Protection from Shaytan

Imam Ibn ul Qayyim al Jawziyyah

    • Seeking refuge with Allah from Shaytan.Allah the Most High said, “And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.” [41:36]
    • Recitation of the two surahs al-Falaq and an-Nas, as they have wondrous effect in seeking refuge with Allah from his evil, weakening Shaytan and protection from him. This is why the Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said: “No person seeks refuge with anything like the Mu`awwidhatayn (soorahs al-Falaq and an-Nas)”. [an-Nasaa’i, 5337]
    • Recitation of Ayat al-Kursi(2:255).
    • Recitation of surah al-Baqarah. The Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said, “The house in which al-Baqarah is recited is not approached by Shaytan.” [Muslim]
    • The final part of al-Baqarah.The Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said, “Whoever recites the two last verses of al-Baqarah at night they will suffice him.” [Muslim]
    • Recitation of the beginning of soorah Mu’min(Ghafir), until His saying, “wa ilayhi-l-maseer” (to Him is the destination). (i.e. “Ha. Meem. The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Knowing, the forgiver of sin, acceptor of repentance, severe in punishment, owner of abundance. There is no deity except Him; to Him is the destination.” [40:1-2])
    • Saying “la ilaha ill Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa `ala kulli shay’in qadir” (there is nothing worthy of worship except Allah, He has no partner, His is the Dominion and Praise, and He is able to do all things) a hundred times.
    • The most beneficial form of protection from Shaytan: abundance of remembrance of Allah, the Exalted.
    • Ablution and prayer, and they are from among the greatest means of protection, especially at the time of emergence of anger and desire.
    • Abstinence from excess speech, food and mixing with people.
