    Drugs & Nicotine

    Report bad ads?

    Wa'salam aleykum,

I have been abusing cocaine and amphetamine for a while and I have had a few relapses since I converted, thus I haven't been writing here. Now I am clean and have decided to never take cocaine again because it is forbidden and against islaam. However, how is it with smoking regular cigarettes? I've heard it's forbidden, but I'm having a really hard time quiting with it. I'm praying frequently and reading the Qur'an both morning and evening to learn more and become stronger in my faith.

Any tips on how to stop smoking? I don't like it really, I'm just hooked on cigarettes.

    Take care,
    Azrael

    Salaam

Smoking is haraam cos it harms the human body. Have you tried smoking cessation classes ? or even the other methods available? its not easy, but combined with willpower you can do it.

    read these, they may help.

    Re: Drugs & Nicotine

Alhamdulillaah that you have been able to kick out your drugs habit and I truly commend you for that.
I know it is very hard thing to do once you are hooked on those extremely addictive and damaging substances, as I have a close relative who experienced the same problem to a very dangerous degree.
May Allah SWT give you strength and guidance so you will never touch those or even be near them ever again. amiin.

About your cigarette addiction. You've heard right, smoking (cigarette) IS forbidden. This is the ruling why smoking is haram:
    http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/110/smoking%20haraam
    http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/10922/smoking%20haraam

Now, I have never smoked, so I can't give you advice on how to quit smoking and I know it';s hard thing to do, otherwise millions people would have quit it by now.
However, from your info, it seems you have some sort of "addictive" personality, and smoking is just a way to trigger your brain to release endorphins which make you feel good.
So, why don't you take up positive activities which you really enjoy and do not involve haraam things, which will make you feel good and happy.
Also, I've heard regular exercise also helps and have you tried optional fastings (monday-thursday) which can train you to control your craving and very beneficial for your general health, physical and mental. You get a lot of rewards too (as Allah SWT in a hadith qudsi says that fasting is for Him only) and will get you nearer to Allah SWT.
How about hijama (cupping)? Have you heard or considered it? Cupping is one of the sunnah, and if you do it regularly, it detoxifies your body so it will help you in quitting smoking, methinks.

    wa alaykum us-Salaam,

sometimes you don't realize the importance of something until its gone i.e your health.

i saw how smoking had deteriorated the health of my granddad.

try think ahead and contemplate the ill affects your smoking will have on your health. you might not care now, but is it desirable to you to jeopardize your lungs and have trouble merely breathing. breathing is a life line and if you cant breathe, you're going to die (sorry to be blunt)...that's what you're willing to jeopardize?

and what about your loved ones? how will your bad health affect them? do you think they want to see you in pain? do you have younger siblings/family members that are too young to understand what is happening to you when they see you in bad health.

i don't mean to be harsh, but you need to pull yourself together. i hope you wake up.

please make dua that Allah grants me a good end (to my life). please make dua that Allah guides me.

Get yourself a good supportive network around you, get help from your GP if you have to, go to cessation meetings, but have the willpower to quit + keep strong in your faith. Like the sis has mentioned above, you dont realise until, how it affects others around you. My father had cancer, as a family we had to watch him suffer, in pain after his treatments, numerous visits to the hospital, his ending life was painful, for us, even more, so.... devastating as it was for us to watch, i cant begin to imagine the pain he was in. I wouldnt wish that on anyone. I had to witness that, i didnt have a choice, but you do, you can change things, and save yourself and your family from that.

    Good luck.

    Salams all

Interesting theory re: hijama detoxifying the body so may help with smoking and other addiction.

As a hijama enthusiast and trianee therapist, I would love to try this out. It certainly has some logic to it.

If I have any success, will inshaAllah post the details here!
