Today is my day off and while flipping through the millions of different options that are always on TV i find a show about ghosts and haunted places. Which got me thinking. I have felt and seen ghosts before.
What is the Korans standpoint on ghosts and in Islam is it accepted that their are people more sensitive to seeing ghosts?
the reason i ask is when i was a baby my mom woke up panicking and ran into my room where she saw some woman holding me and when she ran to wake up my dad the women was gone. ever since then my mom has always told me to be careful and i have always felt like a lot more negative things gravitate towards me.
I just wondered what the Islamic standpoint on this is and what if anything i can do to (for lack of a better term) dispel the negative energy.
Briefly, jinn are a species that have been given freewill and they live in a dimension that is superimposed onto ours. In a sort of astral world. We don't know the specifics.
- They can live for very long periods of times.
- They can move from place to place very fast.
- They can possess people.
- Jinns follow different religions and will be judged just like us humans will.
- They are made from smokeless fire.
- Iblees is of the jinn.
I think jinn provide a rather convenient explanation for many of the mysterious phenomena we see around us. I.e. poltergeist activity, hauntings etc. For example, imagine there was a jinn frequenting a house in the 1600s and he became used to the residents of that time. Since jinn live very long, this jinn would be able to come and manifest/show himself in the present 21st century with the guise of the residents he remembered from the 1600s.
For protection from the jinn, there is a verse in the Quraan called 'ayatul kursi' the verse of the Throne (here it is in Arabic). Reciting it provides a very powerful protection against all evil.
Also the last 3 surahs of the Quraan are effective.
Don't fear them, place your trust in Allah and seek refuge in him from all evil beings.

I asked this before, but it was never answered: Are Jinn able to hurt people. I have never seen this, but a friend of mine has. It's called a Shadow Person. It takes the form of a black cloak and gives a feeling of dread. I always thought that they were spirits born out of people's negative emotions.
Yes, I would say they are able to hurt people. Physical effects such as the one you described might be rare but it's primarily psychological harm that they inflict.
The Jinn are real, and they are mentioned in the Holy Quraan. Actually, an entire Sorah in the Quraan is called Sorah Aljenn. But dont worry, they are so weak, and cant hurt u if u mention Allah regularly especially after dawn and sunset times. Dont forget to read AlKursy Verse.
My sister once talked to a "ghost" which spoke a language she had to have my father translate for her. Turns out, later on, in the very same house, she saw something she found out was a djinn. To this day, she still probably thinks they were separate entities.
There are different definitions of a ghost. The older and more traditional and better known definition of the lingering soul of a deceased person is probably impossible. We don't know exactly where people are, however, during al-Barzakh, which is (as I understand it) only figuratively rendered "the world of the grave", except that the angels apparently have custody of them somewhere until Judgment Day when they enter their resurrected bodies. It is possible that they're around, but that doesn't mean we can interact with or even detect them. There are more "modern" and parapsychological definitions of a ghost which are not spiritual. These depict ghosts as being more like carbon copies of the physical or preternatural life energy a living person had. The difference between that kind of a ghost and the traditional, spiritual sense of the word is as wide as the difference between a person's voice supernaturally continuing to speak after the person has left earshot and a mere echo or recording of that voice being made and left by unknown means. I have heard one theory that involves Kirlian fields, the electromagnetic imprint all organisms have and which some people connect with the idea of auras. It has been said that these fields flare up when you're emotionally agitated, and that for some reason if this flare-up happens at the moment of your death--if you die suddenly and tragically or something like that, in other words--then the fields end up detaching and remaining after you're gone, an energy imprint of yourself hovering around the place of your death. I am not commenting on whether or not any of this is true; I'm only issuing information.

i see things all the time, im not on drugs as yet and only time will tell how bad things get.
inb4 go see a doc, i put it down to not praying enough or just a failing body.
im cool wit it though.

well whatever it is, its not a good thing is it?
so if i isnt good then the only reasonable explanation is it is due to neglecting something that would keep you away from evil.
...or some sort of dysfunctional brain.
anyway its more than superstition, its a regular occuring madness lol. for example i once saw my gran shoot a spark out of her finger.. although granted it was a one off. some of the time its just shadows of people either as dark or light sillhouettes even in empty rooms.
i doubt that its jinn, i fear only god so i dont let it bother me so much.
its much easier to say on a forum, i doubt i would ever tell anybody in real life.
I suggest that you try seeing a psychiatrist if you are having regular and frequent hallucinations. There is no shame in it any more than there is in going to a dentist for having regular phantom pains in your mouth, or going to a medical physician because you're having recurring pains in a place where it seems you shouldn't be. Keep praying, though, just don't correlate it irrationally to something it obviously has nothing to do with.

Sounds like you've got a Dementor on your hands.
I hear the Patronus Charm works wonders, so you might want to look into that. Here is an artist's rendering of it being used against some Dementors:
The above picture is a worst case scenario though, and you'll rarely have to face off against more than a few at a time. Still, if things get too out of hand, you might want to give the Ministry a call.
