    A brother in the mosque

    Report bad ads?

    As-salamu alaykum to all

Yesterday during Isha prayer I met a brother in the mosque who recently started following Islam so today I provided him with some literature (English translated Qur'an, book about Islam and a book about Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.)). My dad suggested that I also give the brother some help from the internet so could anyone please post some reliable and authentic Islamic websites which can help our new brother. And also very important, if you know any good lecturers for new Muslims it would truly be awesome if you could give me their names. I already thought about Bilal Philips. InshAllah Allah (s.w.t) will reward you for your help.

P.S.: Im not looking for scholars such as Ahmad Deedat or Zakir Naik because they are more into the comparitive religious studies but I'm more inclined towards finding those scholars who help the new Muslims!

Thank you very much in advance

    Salam 3laikum.

I forgot to add, I will no be telling the brother about Islamic forum's because I have my own reasons! There are bad people everywhere and I don't want him to be misguided by some ignorant fool. Especially when moderators are not available 24/7 to remove junk immediately.

    So NO forums please!

    Salam 3laikum.

Masha'Allaah, it's good that you are trying to help the brother. You are right that the internet can be a very confusing place and it's better he learns Islam in person from local people he can trust.

Here are some websites for basic information about Islam:

Please, B'lore has so many Scholars, and there's nothing like face to face communication, put him under the tutelage of a Scholar, he should be ultra protected from the Net. Would you like to have any info with regards to B'lore Scholars then let me know.

Re: A brother in the mosque

i really, really like Mufti Menk. as a revert, i find his style to be the most appealing. he has a couple hundred hours of stuff on youtube.

Brother Khan is magnificent, but you should try to arrange those in a good order. but he is up there with the Mufti. i also like Dr Bilal Philips.

there's a cat you may have never heard of, Dr Bashar Shala. he's technically not a scholar, and i only say that at his personal request. he's a neurologist by trade. however, his lectures on history, especially the Seerah and the Khalifa are hands down my absolute favorite. style-wise, he edges out Mufti Menk by a shade. and in my book, that is simply impossible. it can't happen. and yet...

    http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/me...wi%20%28saw%29

he has 4 lectures on al Kafh , that i simply adore as well. on this page:

    http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/me...s%20of%20Quran

if you add, Sh Jamal Zarabozo, especially this series on Al Fataihah, you have my top 5 favorite lecturers.

    http://www.kalamullah.com/al-fatihah.html

i would recommend the Zarabozo series and the Menk Al Fatihah first, starting with Menk. then the Seerah by Dr. Shala. then this course on the fundamentals of Islam by Dr. Philips:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG7rNevw3fE

with that much knowledge, he should be prepared to fully appreciate the genius of Br Nouman Ali Khan:

    http://www.kalamullah.com/juzz-amma.html

    http://www.kalamullah.com/nouman-alikhan.html

i would highly recommend those 5 to any English speaking revert. in fact, i would recommend them to every revert who's mother tongue is English.

there are actually 2 versions of Dr. Shala's Seerah. the one i posted was just just completed, which i shall now finish downloading for myself. i actually listened to this one first: oops, it's gone. i think i shall write Brother Jamal and ask him why he took it down. i have it on my hard drive, i love it dearly.

The Position of As-Ṣalāh in Islam
    1. As-Ṣalāh is the second pillar of the five pillars of Islam. The
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), said: “Islam
is built upon five pillars: Witnessing that there is no god but Allah,
and that Muhammad is his servant and Messenger, and establishing
    the prayer…” (1)
    2. As-Ṣalāh is the best of actions. The Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allah be upon him), has said: “The best of actions is the prayer
    early in its time.” (2)
    3. is the line between Islam and Kufr (disbelief). The
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) , said: “Indeed
between a man and shirk and Kufr is leaving the prayer

Anything by Suhaib Webb is pretty good, especially for converts. You may also choose to give him some advice by telling him not to take everything he hears in a lecture/online at face value immediately. All the new information, differing views, and differing levels of strictness and/or severity can overwhelm a new Muslim, or even drive them down a fairly extreme path.
