New to Islam but in non muslim country

    Report bad ads?

Salam aleikum brothers and sisters, i am from a 100% christian country (i don't want say which) and i was christian for 30 years but now i have 2 years that want to become muslim because i don't agree with many things they do and follow and i admire the purity in soul only islam gives. So i started pray to Allah day and night. The problem is that my family love me but they don't want even to hear that i will revert. Whenever i tell them that god is one and i must pray only to him and not to jesus or to Mary, the "war" starts they start to insult and tell me atheist and that god will punish me, so i say nothing i leave and go to my room to stay calm and not reply back. I have tried to explain them that God is one not three and i should worship him alone but not only they don't understand they don't want even to hear they think Allah is other god. Also i have stopped going to church because they all do the cross symbols and they kiss images of saints, Jesus and Maryam and i don't think it's right to kiss images or my protection to be based on the cross symbol as only the god can save and punish. I still don't know if i can be called real muslim yet, i have 2 years that pray only to Allah but 2 times only not 5, at Ramadan i fasted near 2 weeks and not very rightly mostly as parents fast in christian way and i gave zakat 2 times to people of the earthquake. These days the people celebrate easter and the ressurection of Jesus they tell me "Christ has risen" and they expect me to reply "Trully he has risen" but i don't know what to do. I don't even know if Jesus really died on the cross and Allah ressurected him or if they though he died but he was alive as happened with prophet Jonah in the belly of the fish. I am in confusion, the only thing i believe and i am sure is that Allah is one and has no partners, noone is equal to him i don't believe in trinity and i believe both Jesus and muhammad and all the previous prophets as the messengers of Allah with the same message to worship him alone. I want also to ask if it is sin to go to christian church and what it is forbidden to do in case i go. Thank u very much!

    Salaams

    I feel for you.

Reading your post reminds me of the stories of the prophets. When they were given their 'hidayahs' on the truth. They all had difficulties with their own communities.

Some had to migrate. Some had to disown family members who suffered terrible fate.

You are on the right path, and it is not going to be easy as it appears to be life changing, one part especially with the future relationship you will have with your family. Big chance that it will never be the same again.

The other would be your support structure as a new brother... That also seem bleak from what you say.

Allah knows what's in your heart.

Perhaps go on a vacation a Muslim country?

    Peace ✌

Re: New to Islam but in non muslim country

Thanks for the answer! The situation with parents isn't that bad. It mostly happens at christmas and at easter when they go to church and i don't follow. The rest days it's all ok when there are no religion discussions. But i understand them and i pray to Allah to forgive them as they grew in christian families and didn't know, they only follow what the priests have taught them, not possible for them to read Quran or me to change their mind. The funny is when they saw that i practise islam some christians stopped talking but some love more than before! I want to go to Makkah one day is my dream but isn't possible yet because i work here and is difficult leave but in future maybe.

Re: New to Islam but in non muslim country

Maybe if you were to tell them in an interesting way the continuity of the Books evolved, it may help them absorb a bit more on the progression of faith.

God created Adam is common to the 4 Books

In terms of teachings, the Psalms taught us the Tauheed - which is the relationship with Allah. So that we may understand Allah better.

The Torah in essence taught us human dynamics. In short for us to do unto others what we want others to do unto you. So to be a good human being. But Satan lead us away to revenge - eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.

The Gospels added forgiveness; to turn the other cheek. Such a 'higher' state of being. But with people eventually accepting, the world became more ready for the Qur'an

The Qur'an brought the rules on living in a community. All the previous Books had incremental messages for humanity.

Unfortunately, like school, kindergarten, primary, secondary and tertiary, where many people left at the various levels of education that remain separated rather than United.

Hopefully you see something to chat with your family in the future.

    Peace ✌

Re: New to Islam but in non muslim country

    Assalaamu alaikum brother Jelleggg,

I come across stories like your own many times. I feel your frustration but hang in there, there is help at hand.

Sapience Institute have a mentoring program called Lighthouse which is perfect for new Muslims and will help you to navigate these issues with support in sh'Allah. The main brother who does the mentoring is a revert himself and therefore a lot more emotionally intelligent to your issues than those of us who are born into Islam. The best part is - it's completely free as well. Here is the link https://www.lighthousementoring.org/

There is also iERA's new muslim support program and this is also completely free: https://newmuslim.iera.org/new-muslim-mentor/

Both are fantastic and I have done work for both these organisations, and therefore attest the work they do is exemplary, and much needed.

May Allah keep you steadfast, ameen!

Re: New to Islam but in non muslim country

Thank u brother. I agree we are all humans and sin sometimes but must never loose hope in the mercy of Allah. I believe he will forgive these who fear him and
don't do bad in the world. What led me to islam was the nasheeds and quran recitations. Nasheeds made me admire islam and hate and stop music. That was the start. Then I started reading the Quran and show everything in it is right. To believe in God was easy if look how perfectly is the earth created, the animals, the planets the sky the sun and the moon is easy to understand that there must be a perfect creator behind all these. Then prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the perfect example for humanity. I believe he was a simple man like all of us and had sins too but not only Allah forgive him but he choosed him to be a prophet so that is an example for all humankind to believe that Allah will forgive us if we pray to him and repent.

Re: New to Islam but in non muslim country

Hi and welcome. I am in a similar situation. I was a non-muslim Arab, until something happened that changed my viewpoint. I feel bad that you are being insulted because you believe something different. I am new to Islam, but I believe the prophet Mohammed also experienced hardship when he was spreading his message. You should not feel discouraged when people speak badly of Allah. Allah is the true god. Allah will guide you.

Hi Warrior, i agree it's normal that they wouldn't like, i don't care what they say am used to it they can't change the truth. Allah (SWT) will always be 1 and not 2 or more and without anyone equal or similar to him.
