    Making up Missed Salah

    Report bad ads?

I have been practicing Islam since June 2001 and I have kept up my salah since then. For 15 years prior to that I periodically tried to establish salah, but would quickly get discouraged and stopped. Tonight, I was reading in Reliance of the Traveler that "An apostate who then returns must make up every prayer missed."

My question is, how would I make up for so many missed prayers?

    Re: Making up Missed Salah

    Asalam alaikum brother,

A few weeks ago prior to Ramadhan a local scholar came to our mosque, alhumdulilah, and gave a khutbah on something similar to this. I'll try to help you with your situation with his guidance. To more or less of the effect he said there can be 3 possible recommendations that a person can do for undoing the sin involved in being negligent toward obligatory prayers in the pasttime of his lifetime.

The first recommendation,to more or less of the effect was that a person must offer all of the lost prayers as soon as he realizes their importance and significance that he hasn't made in the past. A possible method that ifyou allow me I may suggest is to offer each of the five daily prayers twice (only the fardhrakahs that is), once to fulfill the present prayers and the second time as a recompensation for one of the lost prayers of the past...

The second recommendation he gave was that a person should regularly offer his present obligatory prayers and then after them he should attempt to try to offer as many supererogatory (nafil) rakahs as may be possible for him during the time and pray that Allah shall accept our supererogatory rakahs and shall accept them as a recompensation for our previous missed prayers of the past, insha'Allaah.

The final recommendation as I recall it was that the prayers intentionally missed are lost forever and, therefore, cannot be offered after their prescribed previous times. a person has no other option, except to repent to Allah and ask for His forgiveness and mercifulness for all the prayers that he has intentionally missed in the past be forgivnen by the All-Merciful.

I would be more inclined to lean toward suggesting a combination of point number 2 and 3. My suggestion would be that you pray your regular obligatory prayers, offer supererogatory (nafil) rakahs regularly and seek Allahs forgiveness for your past. It may be hoped that your supererogatory prayers and you or anyone for that matter who consistently seek Allahs forgiveness for your past negligence toward prayers, shall insha'Allaah, be a source of complete forgiveness and infinite blessings for you and all of us in the hereafter from Allah, ameen.May Allah help all of us with this, ameen.Insha'Allaah brother, keep myself and my family in your duas as you and yours are in mine.

Allah knows the best in all regards of aspects.

Jazak Allahu khayran, ukhti. I admit my imperfection as a human and that I rely upon the mercy of Allah (swt) to forgive me of my shortcomings and sins. It is not easy to be a Muslim in USA, but I am thankful to Allah (swt) that He led me to Islam and that He did not give up on me when I was in my state of unbelief and that I did not die in that state. I am thankful that Allah (swt) put the conviction in my heart to return to Islam 10 years ago and that He has preserved me along siratal mustaqeem since then. Truly, I am undeserving of such bountiful blessings of guidance from Allah (swt). This issue has been heavy on my heart and I appreciate Akhi Yanal's response and your du'a and concern.

    Salam Alaikkum,

amazing story brother you are honest and brave, and yes, to die a real Muslim is the best thing that could happen to us on earth. Amen
Perhaps you can read and read and learn more about our deen, education comes before faith (well this is personal comment, i hope it is understandable), it will be your soldiers in future, inshallah and hard work.
I told myself before, okay as Christian we believe in Heaven but do I really believe when i do not follow the bible or even go to church? So i realize then how will i be eligible for Allah's mercy or JANNAH when i am too lazy or useless, lool

I am realistic person, I do admit really when I made a mistake or commit a sin, even it would be embarrasing, i will choose to admit. Blessing from Allah, all from Allah, praise be to Allah and may Allah continue to have mercy on us and lead us to the right path, Amen

This is something I need to remember as well, as I have neglected some prayers recently as I deal with some things in my own life.
